Yeah I read up on some of it on tumblr , thanks Jac. pretty much there's a bunch of 1d fans being racist af. I hate when people say "They can't even speak English' Um excuse you? have you even read a thing about any of them or listened to a video ? Mark from Got7 is from LA yo, yes his heritage is Korean but he's from America and speaks perfect English. Jay Park raps in Korean and English, a lot of the band members speak English and a lot of their songs have a few English words in them at least? They're bashing kpop hardcore rn. But the kpop Fandom is fighting back hardcore tbh >_> I like 1d and kpop, but I can't stand the crap they're saying about koreans rn.

O_O There's a 1d vs. kpop showdown right now? That's ridiculous. Most Kpop stars do learn English, even if they lived in Korea all their lives, they put English into their songs sometimes and come to America and other countries on tour or whatever. I mean I'm sure some don't speak English well but usually they do speak some, at the least. Like (not kpop), Miyavi the Japanese (I think he's Japanese?) singer/actor, after he was in that Sandra Bullock movie he went on Ellen and he admitted he didn't speak English that well but I think he spoke it fairly well, and even if he didn't speak it well he understood it almost perfectly.

On a quick side note; I don't know a lot of K-Pop groups yet. In saying that, I can comment on BTS. Namjoon, aka Rap Monster, taught himself how to speak English. He is now practically fluent and he even studied in NZ for awhile. Jimin knows basic English, as does Hoseok and Taehyung. Jungkook knows some English. Suga, admittedly, struggles with it, but he tries. And they know more than that. One can speak Japanese, two can speak Chinese. The point of this is that they at least try and learn other languages to appeal to a more diverse audience. 1D doesn't, at least not to my knowledge. And K-Pop fans, while eccentric, are usually very polite and kind, albeit a little crazy at times (myself included). I have never heard a death threat from a K-Pop fan like I have from 1D fans.

Exactly. In Got7 Jackson speaks 6 languages? He's very intelligent and educated, Bambam speaks Thai, English, and Korean?? People are so ignorant sometimes its annoying, I have people on my dash(cuz I follow some 1D blogs) saying that Kpop isn't real music and everyone's tone deaf, blah blah, and why do Americans listen to Kpop when you can't understand their words? Well I know some Korean(not a lot but because of the shows I watch I know a few words) plus there are English subtitles? For any of the vid's if you want to know what they're saying, AND in my opinion music doesn't have a language? Its just music, you feel it, and it communicates to you all on its own?

((Fun reminder: Most Americans speak only one or two languages, usually English and Spanish or English and something else. But Asian languages such as Korean are (at least in my opinion) incredibly difficult to learn and as you've noted, there are K-pop stars that speak several different languages.))

Maori lessons are compulsory until you reach high school age. Maori is in almost everything around me, so I know some Maori as well as my native tongue. I am slowly learning Korean and I have a high respect for the culture and language. It is a beautiful language to listen to, and to those who say people who listen to K-Pop are tone deaf, I just want to say, with all politeness, that YOU ARE SO DAMN WRONG!
