Tomi Bila I recall the two massive ships one being cargo, and the other military, they are both racing to get to a 'jump port' of sorts to jump to hyperspace. There is an AI that goes crazy involved, and zombie-like infection in one of the ships. They had to abandon their planet because it was an illegal mining rig, and the ships sent to hunt them down were catching up, thus a timer.

As for details about the look of the book, i remember it being very distinct. Showing pieces of information in drawn data logs, text curved on space tracing the path of the ships, so on.

I can't quite think of a year-span, but it was fairly recent.

It is adult fiction, and there is no set main character, it shifts between the pair, since they're on two different ships. I do not recall their names.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman Illuminae
cannot remember much, but was hard to read as an ebook, worked not well on a Kindle, due to to the tricks with graphic text, spiralling once around the page etc. Was a little better to use and read on a tablet (iPad mini).

Cannot remember a Zombie infection, but the "AI that goes crazy" and the "illegal mining" rings a bell, also the very distinct playing around with graphics, logs etc. . So after some consideration I think, this is your searched for book.

Ingo (ilembcke) | 669 comments This is a series (trilogy), but the next book has different main characters, and while I started it, I could not get into it. Liked the first one a lot, jupp just checked.
My 5* review.
