I thought this was a book by Walker Percy... but I looked up all Percy's books and I don't think he wrote it. I think I connected it because of the Catholic themes... it's a work of fiction. I'm trying to remember a book that involved a character, maybe named Maureen, who was going on the Compstela pilgrimage. There was some significance with the shell/concha symbol to her specifically. There was a main male character, maybe her estranged husband? There was some scene with him driving a convertible. There was a theme in the book of trying to recreate the past/relive old memories, maybe to rekindle their romance? I feel like it was a bit of an existential novel, maybe? Please help! The book was published before 2005 which is when I read it.
