Copy down a single line/quote from your reading from today. Then, explain why that particular line/quote stood out to you.

Your responses should be detailed and well thought out! Please do not submit after only writing for a minutes time.

Once you are done submitting your own post, respond to at least 1 of your classmates’ post. What do you think of the quotes/lines that they have shared?

message 2: by Colin (new)

Colin | 7 comments " A door size man with a cliff for a nose ̈ This line stood out to me because of the language they used to describe this character and I thought it was pretty interesting.

message 3: by Henry (new)

Henry Rouch | 9 comments One line that stood out to me was "I'm Free." This was one of the last lines of the book. It was the first time that Evelyn had been outside since she was imprisoned two years before, and she had finally escaped the oppressive leaders of the prison she was in. This was from Freedom Trials by Meredith Tate.

message 4: by Alex (new)

Alex | 8 comments "Your, Quintuplets???" this stood out to me because this is what really opened up the book and this is where the book truly began.

message 5: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie Greco | 9 comments “i’m in trouble”. i think represents her feelings during this particular scene and showing how she knows she is in the wrong

message 6: by Addison (new)

Addison Benz | 7 comments My father was not a hero, my mother wanted to kill people... so I went to play out in the street. This stood out to me because it summed up the book so far very well.

message 7: by Mary (new)

Mary Lister | 9 comments "The slave stood free; stood a brief moment in the sun; then moved back again toward slavery", this line stood out the me because it had so much context and meaning behind just a single sentence. It brought up a idea that could be expand on in the future while still giving a fair amount of information in the sentence itself (this is in the book, the 1619 Project).

message 8: by Kidron (new)

Kidron Brewer | 3 comments "Its a shame for a child to go so young like that,"... "It should have been somebody old, like me." This line stood out to me because there's a lot of young people still being killed today and it just shows many conversations that are being had daily about youth being killed.

message 9: by Stav (new)

Stav Davidson | 5 comments "I scoop him up onto my shoulders, ignoring the pain. 'Next stop, the Command Center, Sir!' Cole tugs my ears. 'Giddy up!'"
I like this quote because they are acting like someone else.
The Culling

message 10: by Ryder (new)

Ryder | 6 comments My line is from the book "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir. "you sure you can see light so small, question?" this line comes from an alien that the main character is talking to. and he is reffering to a microscope. i thought it was interesting how he described a microscope.

message 11: by Angel (new)

Angel Oviedo | 3 comments send adrenaline to the heart, dry out the tongue and clog the longs i like the words they sued

message 12: by Mary (new)

Mary Lister | 9 comments Colin wrote: "" A door size man with a cliff for a nose ̈ This line stood out to me because of the language they used to describe this character and I thought it was pretty interesting."

I find that interesting too because it gives a good idea of the person with only a few words.

Angel Oviedo | 3 comments Alex wrote: ""Your, Quintuplets???" this stood out to me because this is what really opened up the book and this is where the book truly began."

no

message 14: by Zhanna (new)

Zhanna Hymes | 4 comments some lines that stood out to me were "but shopping with my mother. just shoot me and put me out of my misery." it stood out to me because I also hate shopping with my mom because she doesn't like the clothes i wear and that i always go for black and red.

message 15: by Alex (new)

Alex | 8 comments Angel wrote: "send adrenaline to the heart, dry out the tongue and clog the longs i like the words they sued"
ong that goes hard.

message 16: by Calvin (new)

Calvin Talmage | 11 comments "Come then, let us all be agreed, and do as I say: let us go away in our ships to our dear native land, because we shall never capture Troy of the wide streets." This stood out because this sentiment is actually of peace but is immediately counteracted on the next page and the Achaeans return to their war campaign.

message 17: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Nakane | 5 comments ¨The human body is sixty percent water well, now I know what the rest is. The rest is dust, the rest is ash, its sorrow and its grief. But above all that it binds us together.¨ This quote stood out to me because it explains what these characters went through.

message 18: by Emily (new)

Emily Wolf | 6 comments "With powerful leg muscles blooded and stinging and rippling with a long leonine grace, Karras thumped around a turn when he noticed someone sitting on a bench to the side where he'd laid out his towel and his sweatsuit jacket and pants." This stood out to me because it is very descriptive and is the only quote that is not inappropriate. The Exorcist

message 19: by Ezequiel (new)

Ezequiel Delgado | 6 comments "We created within out campaign an opportunity fir more people to be part of the fight" Means that you should encourage people to dont be scared and come out and help step forward.

message 20: by Layne (new)

Layne Koury | 9 comments "Just make sure it's brave and bold, Lily." This line stood out to me because it is something meaningful that her mom says to her. It's also the reason Lily decided to open up a different kind of flower shop.

message 21: by Adja (new)

Adja Cissokho | 3 comments "I was surprised to see the world didn't stop because my boy did" I thought this was a very interesting sentence because it made it seem like she didn't see anything and was actually blind for 3 months

message 22: by Arielle (new)

Arielle Buzil | 10 comments "anyway its not for you or me to do justice, Id even say we have to learn to forgive" I like this because I think this is really important to think about. I really do believe sometimes its not up to us as humans to create justice ya know. Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood

"When the facts are primarily of a quantative nature, the computer can be utilized to be help in this task."
When thinking about all the data a company gathers and anaylzes, it is interesting to understand how they go through all these different numbers. Different softwares and technologies have come a long way and make it very easy to understand a widespread range of numbers and statistics.

message 24: by James (new)

James Zeller | 4 comments "Jennifer was the butterfly. A plaid, egg-shaped butterfly. She had a talent we didn't possess, and, therefore, was special." In the book, Jennifer was bullied quite frequently, but in this quote it is revealed that she is very talented and gains respect from her peers. The deeper meaning to this is that there is more to things than meets the eye, and giving more time to find out those quirks and special things is really worth it.

This book seems really good

message 26: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Simmons-Hood | 5 comments "Willie said she wished we were all mute like Sadie" I found this quote interesting due to the previous line before this one saying how Sadie was a horse who had recently died from a gunshot... and I find it a little frightening how the character willie compares a dead horse to how she wants her workers to be.

message 27: by Kaia (new)

Kaia Cmarko | 6 comments " Our hearts are bars of soap that we keep losing hold of " This stood out to me because i could really see the imagery of a bar of soap that is slippery and i think that one sentence can just really mean a lot Anxious People

message 28: by Robo (new)

Robo Gallun | 6 comments "Two thousand people lined the cliff, while below the water teemed with photographers, surfers, Jet Skis , and boatfuls of gawkers" I thought this quote was good because it described the setting very well giving the reader good information on the location the main character is.

message 29: by Annabelle (new)

Annabelle | 6 comments A line that stood out to me is "everything is going to change". This stood out to me because I have read this book and I know it's a big turning point in the story so it is a very important line.

message 30: by Eleanor (new)

Eleanor | 11 comments "These past few months, she might have thought herself to be living in a dream if it weren't for the heaviness that constantly dragged in her chest." - Our Violent Ends pg. 109

This line stands out to me because I think the way its written is really beautiful. Its figurative language describes something that is hard to talk about but I understand exactly what the author is trying to get across.

message 31: by Adrian (new)

Adrian | 7 comments "When I hit this imaginary story reject, I see the world he's from...Change." This line surprises me because it shows the power this Superboy has and how he knew he was powerful but he didn't know to what extent until now, as he faced off a being, by himself, that could destroy the whole multiverse and the creators of it.
Dark Nights: Death Metal: The Secret Origin #1Scott Snyder

message 32: by Alex (new)

Alex Andalman | 4 comments One line that stood out to me was "Ezinma is dying," came her voice and all the tragedy and sorrow of her life were packed in those words" This line really stood out to me because of the imagery and detail it used by saying the tragedy and sorrow of the wives live were packed in the words. Along with that the book typically fails to really address the problems that the women faced in it due to the time period and place its base in so it was a pretty powerful line.

message 33: by Nell (new)

Nell | 9 comments "She is not interested in my personality. She doesn't notice it...I am merely a utensil, a temporary topic for the eternal discussion between her long eye and her deliberate eye." This stood out to me because I've read a lot of books where the character wants to stand out, however, in this book the main character would rather observe and feels uncomfortable having the spotlight on them. Quite literally sometimes.

message 34: by Dash (new)

Dash Blixt | 5 comments The Color of Magic
"at last!" he said "My good sir! This is remarkable!" (Although in Trob the last word in fact became "a thing which may happen but once in the usable lifetime of a canoe hollowed diligently by ax and fire from the tallest diamondwood tree that grows in the noted diamondwood forests on the lower slopes of Mount Awayawa, home of the fire gods or so it is said") I chose this quote simply because I both found it funny and it gives little worldbuilding details which may or may not come back into the plot (there are tons of books in the discworld series so it's likely it does come up again). It's just cool that Terry Pratchett was able to write this without any reservations.

I like this quote. I like the use of repetition with b; Bold and Brave.

message 36: by Celeste (new)

Celeste | 5 comments Tokyo Ever After"I pretended it didn't hurt. Just like when I pretended it didn't hurt when some kid asked me if my family celebrated the bombing of pearl harbor like Christmas." Shows how society is

message 37: by Max (new)

Max Fervoy | 8 comments Mindset, "Jack, Lou, and Anne-all believing in growth, all brimming with passion. And all believing that leadership is about growth and passion, not about brilliance". This quote stood out because I think it is a life lesson that everyone can benefit from, whether it's sports, school, work, etc, the more compassion and growth you put into something, the better the results will end up being.Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

message 38: by Isaac (new)

Isaac Gold-Kessler | 5 comments "I don't know, if we're not willing to stand up for each other, maybe we should forget about the rest of the thing and just move on in our separate ways. No big thing." I chose this quote because I think it is really interesting and telling of his values in friendship, and to that point I think it's very relatable.

message 39: by Will (new)

Will Gurley | 10 comments Red Queen "Destroyed by the greatness of others, losing the battle for our right to exist because we are not special." I thought this line was extremely powerful, and it has a lot packed into it in just one sentence. I like how the author used this to describe how the group of people feels.

message 40: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Shoenthal | 6 comments "It would be interesting to see what men fear most. Taking a new step, uttering a new word is what they fear most." This sentence really stood out to me because it was discussing how the character had a plan to kill someone and tied into his fear with going through with the plan. (From Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky)

message 41: by Ollie (new)

Ollie | 5 comments "As long as I don't forget to look beyond myself. And remember that I'm part of something much, much bigger. Then maybe I won't forget again how beautiful it is... and how beautiful we are." I don't have a specific reason for choosing this quote, I just really enjoy how it sounds and the message that it sends to the reader.

Will Gurley | 10 comments Max wrote: "Mindset, "Jack, Lou, and Anne-all believing in growth, all brimming with passion. And all believing that leadership is about growth and passion, not about brilliance". This quote stood out because ..."
I really like this quote; it does a good job of explaining how leadership and success is more of a mindset than anything else.

message 43: by Chris (new)

Chris | 5 comments "the ringtone i downloaded for the cell phone I got after my dad died."

this stood out to me because it is showing that him and his dad had a special connection and this music was something they enjoyed together and it creates a good memory of his dad for him.

"That crush of happiness, that feeling that this is what life's about: being somewhere beautiful, with someone you love." This quote stood out to me because I often think this when I am on vacation or am just with my friends/family. People can often get caught up in the superficial stressors, when what we really need to focus on is doing what makes us most happy.

a quote from my book is "he tells you his dean is making him hire a person of color when there are so many great writers out there" i felt pretty shocked even though i knew this book was about race and i didn't expect it

message 46: by Malik (new)

Malik | 3 comments "how can a human be illegal?". i'm reading the book named illegal, about a kid trying to get to Europe for a better life. this quote stood out to me because Elie Wiesel has a point, it really doesn't make sense to say somebody is illegal. How can a human being be Illegal?

message 47: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen | 6 comments My book is called "Sick," by Tom Leveen. A quote is, "Most people aren't used to it. Definitely not the girls. Just saying." This line stood out to me because it was kind of unnecessarily obnoxious. I'm not sure why the book specifically reminds the reader "definitely not the girls," since its kind of just a weird, insulting thing to say out of no where, especially since its not essential for context or really anything at all in the book.

message 48: by Nina (new)

Nina Kaiser | 6 comments "You? I haven't turned you into anything unhealthy."
"Maybe not yet."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
She laughs. " You're missing the point, Sam. These are all good things, all normal things. And rather than enjoying them, you find a way to twist them into something toxic."

The quotes I chose are from the book "Every Last Word" by Tamara Stone, and this quote in particular really stood out to me because of the fact that I have read and reread this book many times and never realized how much this line hinted at the plot twist that occurs later in the story. I just thought it was crazy that I had never noticed it before.

message 49: by Kylie (new)

Kylie | 6 comments "One of the worst parts about someone dying is thinking back to all those times you didn’t ask the right questions, all those times you stupidly assumed you’d have all the time in the world." I chose this quote because i think it is incredibly meaningful. I think we do take for granted the people in our lives and you never really know when they're not going to be here anymore, so you just have to appreciate the time you have with them now. Tell Me Three Things
