2022 WP shortlist - The Island of Missing Trees

Nope, definitely not for me. I liked bits and pieces of it (Kostas' voice and his character, for example) but overall I was just bored, by the fig-tree commentary especially, but also by the extremely slow pacing; the main plot, if you can call it that, could have been told in a 20-page short story.

I guess it made sense it was nominated for the Costa’s Prize …. Less sure what it’s doing here.

I thought this was ok, I enjoyed the things I learnt about trees and butterflies and how they were all interconnected. Some lovely food descriptions. It just hasn’t wowed me or seem to be particularly memorable and I was really looking forward to reading it.
