This book is a collection of Science Fiction short stories. I can see why so many liked/loved this book and I can see why so many disliked/hated this book. I struggled to finish but happy I did. Written in the 1950s the robot concept part is wow for the time. What I did not like is the presentation of the storyline. It lacks a full picture of what is going on at times and overkill of details other times.
I liked the movie and the book is nothing like the movie other than it does paint a picture of what could go wrong or right in a robot world.

I've never seen the movie, and I liked this better than you did.

Totally agree with you that for the 1950s the robot concept part is wow for the time.

I didn't like this book, either, although I liked The Caves of Steel which is a detective murder mystery that's also scifi and has robots in it.

I liked this one much more than you did, but you definitely picked up on the fact that the author did not originally write this as a novel. It was stitched together from previously written short stories, and only became a novel much later.

I have not seen the movie.
