I'm almost finished with The Actual Star and it has THREE timelines, "braided" in alternating chapters, set in: 1012, 2012 and 3012. Would three timelines fit? Or must it be restricted to two?

Yes, multiple timelines work for this task. I see you posted it, and I'm glad you didn't wait. ;-)

I think not. I see some on Tien's list of suggestions that have the same characters.

I maybe am twisting this, but would a book where time travel appears (even briefly) work ?

I am re-reading the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde, for instance on Something Rotten, most of the setup is 1988, but on one chapter Thursday travels back to the Battle of Trafalgar (1805).

What if the epilogue is set several generations beyond the rest of the book as in In the Field of Grace by Tessa Afshar? Would that work? The epilogue is as long as a chapter and has new characters discussing their ancestors which were the main characters in the prior part of the book.

I don't think this works. But it works for other tasks! Her given name is 5-letters, so works for 10.4, and see from her bio below that she works for 20.7 also!
