Finished!!!! I really, really enjoyed this. As YA Eco-Horror goes, this is top shelf!! I loved the ending. I walk away a happy Reader. Definitely looking forward to more from this author. A smahing debut 💗

I will have to look for that Oliver Crumb book. I have never heard of that. This reminded me a littke of a cross between Burn Our Bodies Down and The Devouring Gray, but I liked this more than both of those. This was a great debut!

Chapter 1-3: (view spoiler)[This blight, whatever it is, has me intrigued because it’s unlike anything I have ever read before. So far, the book has risen more questions than answers but I am hopeful that more will be revealed soon. Derek and Wren both fascinate me, i am curious to learn more about their relationship and subsequent breakup. The way Wren still cared for her dog Teddy despite him being infected warmed my heart (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4-6: (view spoiler)[Yikes so it was Wren’s parents who brought this blight to town to be able to harvest more wheat. I feel bad for Wren because it’s clear she has no idea what is happening or who to trust. The reason she broke up with Derek was kinda sad too, i guess it makes sense that she’d be angry he was ready to put the dog down. I am eager to see how she manages to right all the wrongs now that her parents have been taken by the blight too and she herself is infected as well (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7-10: (view spoiler)[I did not think for a second that all four families would be involved in something so sinister and they even had an agreement for the blight, one which none of them obviously respected and now are paying the price for. I feed awful for Wren because the blights takes over her completely at times and that’s bound to be terrifying. Derek is an absolute sweetheart, he has stuck through Wren’s side in every scenario and never once blamed her for anything. This is getting very full of suspense (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11-13: (view spoiler)[holy shit everyone keeps turning into blights and i am positively terrified. I did not get into this book expecting it to be so full of action but it is surprising me at every turn so far. Poor Claudette, i did feel annoyed when she wanted to leave Wren but did not ever wish for her to get infected herself. It’s obvious that the four families had no idea how risky the stones and experimenting with them was. Hoping that Wren is ultimately able to cure everyone and bring them back (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[Woohoooo Wren did save everyone at the end and I couldn’t be happier. I also liked the little tidbit about her and the blight understanding each other’s motives and coming to terms with reality. This was a little more fairy tale ish than I had pegged it to be but i still enjoyed every second of it. I am sad that there is no magic in Hollow’s End anymore but the fact that Warrens were able to save their farm purely through hard work and diligence made me proud of the lot (hide spoiler)]

Yayee! So glad you enjoyed it too, Kira. It did get intense and I loved all the elements involving the founding families and what they brought to Hollow's End.

Oliver Crum is more of a cozy mystery series, or written in the style of, but there were definitely similarities with the history.
