Captive Bride by Johanna Lindsey

Captive Bride by Johanna Lindsey

Synopsis:

The irresistible call of adventure brings lovely Christina Wakefield to the alluring Arabian desert. But fate imprisons her after she encounters Sheik Abu, the strikingly handsome though arrogant adventurer, whom she had known in England as Philip Caxton.

Once Christina had rejected Philip's fervent offer of marriage. But now she is to be his slave -- desperate for the freedoms denied her...yet weakened by her heart's blazing desire to willingly explore her virile captor's most sensuous cravings.

Maureen | 188 comments I just received this book from the Library. I read it and it was an interesting story written in 1977. Probably for that time period it was an average acceptable HR. I didn’t really enjoy this novel. I gave it three stars.

Lauren | 1374 comments I won't be joining in this BOTM. I've just reread this book not too long ago. I have a feeling people are going to be split on this old Bodice-ripper. Happy reading!

Sue | 100 comments When I first started my phase of reading Historical Romance Johanna Lindsey and Jude Devereaux where my first authors.
I did not manage to get to reading 'Captive Bride' when I was in that phase, so I hope I can read it now and join in the discussion.

I managed to get through Chapter 8 and then decided it was not for me. I have only read one Johanna Lindsay before and enjoyed it - although I do recall thinking that it was very old skool bodice ripper....I think they need to be read with that in mind

Lauren | 1374 comments Oh Susan, you've got to try more Johanna Lindsey books! She brings a good amount of humour to her books. I think this is her first book. I did not like this book the first time I read it. Now, I do like it but it's still one of my least favorite.

Which Johanna Lindsey books do you recommend. The only other one I have read was Secret Fire - which I gave five stars even though the premise was really quite offensive!

God!!! Chapter 16th > 17th Nerv racking!!!

Lauren | 1374 comments Nilambari, I gave it 5 stars bc it's a reread for me. 10 years ago I gave the book 2 stars. Hated it! Slowly over the years, I started to enjoy the craziness of the book. It's like a train wreck I can't look away from. I don't know how else to explain it. It's definitely not a book I would recommend to other people.

Susan, The JL books I would recommend would depend on your mood. I like The Heir, Marriage Most Scandalous, Make Me Love You, Gentle Fueding and Joining. The Mallory series is good but in the 1st book, Love Only Once, the H is an a**hole through most of it so be prepared. You Belong To Me I think is the funniest. Most of her books would go in the Bodice-ripper category.
