Hi, all.

For March, Nancy proposed we, "...nominate a book from the list of the Mystery Writers of America Top 100 Mystery Books of All Time. You'll find it here: https://www.librarything.com/bookawar..." so for April let's build on that.

I'm sure every one of us can look at some title on the list and say, "What the --? How did that get on the list and not ______?"

Fill in the blank. (The blank, not the dashes.)

The usual disclaimers apply:
Please keep in mind that
a) this is not the place to nominate your own books;

b) if you nominate a book and it wins in the poll, you are the discussion leader for the group read. If you don't want to do that, then don't nominate a book.

Let's have all nominations in by midnight on March 10.

And finally, a reminder about Nancy's next "reading the movies" discussion in Buddy Reads, which starts on March 10 with The Thin Man, by Dashiell Hammett.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 556 comments Solid list. I'll have to give this some thought.

This is the first in the medieval Chronicles of Brother Cadfael series, and I just said to someone yesterday that I wanted to read it soon!

Hi Nancy, I clicked on "Where are the Children?" by Mary Higgins Clark (her crime novel "Stillwatch" is even better), but I'm not sure if that's what I was supposed to do.

Hi, all.

I wasn't as clear as I thought in my message, so I'll try to clarify.

What is not on the list that you think should have been?

For instance: The list includes The Chill by Ross Macdonald. Technically, a very well-orchestrated novel, but not, I think, as strong as a novel as his The Underground Man. So I would nominate the latter because I think it more deserving of being on a top 100 list.

My apologies for any confusion my initial post caused.

Kay Things being what they are right now, I would bypass masterworks like The Spy Who Came in from the Cold in favor of some badly needed comic relief, and for that Donald Westlake has no peer.
My vote goes to Bank Shot.

Icewineanne | 349 comments Bit of a long one but Donna Tartt’s The Secret History definitely deserved to be on the list

Save those suggestions, folks. Maybe we'll try this one again in a few months.

As it is, the poll has closed and Stillwatch Mary Higgins Clark won. In second place was The Underground Man by Ross Macdonald, and I'll create discussion threads for those closer to April 1.

Probably April 1.

Given the date, I can't guarantee the correct titles will be added until April 2.

Jeri (jerireads) | 9 comments LOL. Okay, just that i noticed March isn't listed so had to search for the titles.
