Mo | 51 comments I would really appreciate SOLID recommendations on these type of H. I am tired of reading the same old alpha, obviously masculine, over-confident hero. By solid I mean very well written and interesting.

Recently, I like reading about the quiet, reserved hero, who is not very popular and seemingly does not have much to offer. Usually there is an other man, who the heroine starts out thinking she loves. However, as we (and the heroine) get to know the Hero, we find he is incredibly brilliant, quietly determined, awesome, and ten times better than the other man.

Good examples of books with this description of Hero are:

Sara Craven's Comparative Stranger
Jane Donnely's The Man Outside

I wish more authors would write Heroes like this. Please recommend books like this that are well written. I tend to read HP books written before 1996 because they are more well written and engrossing in their narratives and dialogues as opposed to relying on gazillions of sex scenes to keep the book moving (open to reading later books if they're well written)I like books that get you hooked right from the first page.

Thanks

Leona (wdwcbm) | 373 comments I have read some of Jane Donnelly's work and loved it. As the review indicates, her heroines have more depth to them and the heroes are wonderful.

I would read more of her work, but it is not as readily available as other Harley authors. Which is a shame.

The Black Hunter
To Cage a Whirlwind
The Silver Cage

Are some of my favorites

Thanks for the recs. I would definitely haunt for these books (though they are so rare!).

Any recs with the kind of hero I described? Another example would be:

Iris Bromige's Laurian Vale

Mo | 51 comments Any more recommendation on this theme? After recently reading a whack load of HPs featuring alphas I am ready to delve into books with this kind hero once again.
