I'm glad that in every book Mercy recaps us on things that happened in the previous book(s)
I don't have things to say, maybe just mention somethings.
*It was interesting to meet her mother, I'm sure she was mentioned in the previous books but nothing more so I was a tad surprised when she showed up.. and she was alive 😅
* I think that at the moment I'm most curious about Sam.. Like, is having a mate going to "cure" him? If it was a normal book I would find that a total bullshit, however since these books have supernaturals and mates... maybe a mate will "fix" him instead of therapy 😅😂 But really, I'm curious if he will find a mate and not be lonely anymore, and if yes, I wonder who will it be, and when will it happen. I'm just a little tempted to go look for spoilers.

I love that these books start off with a bang. There is recap but done well and not too annoying.
I love that these books start off with a bang. There is recap but done well and not too annoying. I loved meeting the mom and really really hope that we see more of her in the book. Maybe Mercy will visit? Combine with the weird Amber visit?
Poor Samuel, he really is lovely. It does seem as if he needs something or someone to live for though not sure how it will come about.
The mating thing was weird. The flesh and blood thing wasn't needed for Anna and Charles, right?
I hope Stefan will be okay. Not that excited for a fight with Marsila but I guess we knew it was coming and usually there are a few extra twists for fun.

I don't remember about Anna and Charles, how it happened. I read the books a while ago.. But did they fully go through with it? Like, they accepted each other, well Anna, as mates but did they finish the whole ritual?
Last night when I saw that I had to read 80 pages for the first day I was oh-oh, how will I manage, but it went by really fast. How would you feel if we read another book in the series later this month?

Good question! The first one, they hadn't fully mated because that was how she was saved from the witch but it did come through eventually? In the second, she kept complaining that he was blocking her. Either way, there definitely wasn't a fully ceremony or words and bites like in this one.

Samuel still has a death wish. Kissing Mercy after she accepted Adam... and in front of Adam..
I feel like I need some fan art for these books. Mercy being 30, okay. Adam looking like someone in their late 20s.. ooookay.. But Bran looking like a teenager.. I can't.
Ghosts are interesting to put among the creatures in Mercy's universe, but so far this story line is weak. Mercy isn't too concerned about the ghost, the mother just leaves her kid alone (yes, she leaves him with Mercy but... I wouldn't leave my kid with someone I used to know in college).

Finished chapter 8, and since it's not even noon, I'm pretty sure I'll finish the book today. I like how easy to read are these books.
I wonder what pros & cons are there to being linked to Stefan.

Hey, just finished chapter 7 this morning. So happy to find snow this morning. Will probably finish today as well as it is 10 AM this side.
Hey, just finished chapter 7 this morning. So happy to find snow this morning. Will probably finish today as well as it is 10 AM this side. Okay, so Blackfoot completely manipulated for Mercy to visit Spokane. He must have something to do with the ghost as well. I can't quite believe that she just left like that. I get that there wasn't much she could do and waking with bite marks is beyond creepy. It just seems so unfinished and unlike her to just leave it like that.
Also not sure about the whole linking to Stefan thing. I'm wary. The story line isn't the best. Half way through and just random events that feel more forced for a bigger story arc. Yet, I'm already ready to see what happens next.
Just processed your last message. Ha ha, nice work!

I'm intrigued about the thing with Stefan too.. And yeah, this book isn't the best one, I really hope the rest of the books aren't like this one.
Oh, and I like that we read the short stories in the order they are chronologically told.

Done. The whole Spokane bit seemed like an unfinished side story to the politics of the seethe with Stefan. It had potential. I liked Chad and the father seemed good in the end but maybe not fully in character. I would have liked a bit more in the details. Ah well, I really liked that the walking stick had a useful role.

I need to walk up the to the library tomorrow and read the next short story or borrow the book again.

I agree, it had potential but...
And now that you finished the book, I can comment on the connection of this book with one of those short stories we read. The vampire and the fae. I was happy that I could connect the story to Blackwood, and I wish it was better executed, I feel like the blood making you what you eat could've been so much better. Maybe it'll appear again in later books.
Here you go with the book, I have a pdf. This will be faster than always going to the library to get the book when a story is next

Which short story are you referring to with the vampire and the fae? I can't remember. It was an intriguing idea that he could gain powers depending on who he ate. I felt so bad for the oak fae.

I felt so bad for the oak fae. You are so kind to share the PDF! I will read the next short story this week. I also borrowed the next Mercy book. When do you want to read that one? The weekend of the 25th? I don't think I could do this week but anytime after the 20th could work?
I just opened the Roses in the Winter one and it is a perfect segue. Mercy asked Marrok about Kara in the last one. Excited to read it.

Ah right, forgot how that the vampire got the extra powers. I just finished the Roses in Winter story. It was very sweet.

I still haven't started it.. but will read it before the next book. Should I make a new thread or should we use this one?

I'll try to at least start it later, but chances are I won't reach the "schedule" not that we follow it much 😂

Ha ha, I couldn't remember if it was Friday or Saturday! Yeah, I'm not the best at schedules. I usually start well and then I just want to know how it ends.

I know I said I liked that we get a recap of things and who is who, but it's starting to annoy me. I guess when you read the books one after the other you don't need the recap and it's too much.
So.. Mercy has visions and stuff? When did that happen, I don't remember it.
IS someone in her head? Because her train of thoughts doesn't sound Mercy like.
Oooh, is it the stick?
😢😢😢 Samuel
At first I thought I won't be reading much, because I wanted to read a bit Network Effect, and catch up to Vespertine, and maybe even start Love & Geleto... but I got sucked in... and finished the first 5 chapters.

Mercy is so good. I just devoured the first 5 chapters as well and hard to not go back to the couch for more but really need to get work done....

I really hated the bowling chapter. I'm glad that she figured out that she was being influenced but really not good for her to be so affected. I think the stick saved her and kicked out whoever was in her head. I'm thinking it is Fae messing with her and not actually the pack. It's got to go back to the book and Finn?
Poor Samuel. I hope he feels better soon. Maybe he is being messed with too? I really hope he gets a happily ever after eventually. He does so love children.
So I might have done more. Good thing that we are reading the short stories. They really do support the main reads.

😂 Okay. I'll see if I'll read it today. I thought I might finish Network Effect, but... I find that I'm not enjoying it as much.. so I'm thinking of dnf-ing it.

Shame on Network Effect. I do love Murderbot but Mercy is definitely much more engaging. It was hard to put down and keep it down.

Yeah, it's a shame. I guess I could deal with the tell instead of show in the novellas because they were short, but with this one.. Even Murderbot's lines couldn't save it for me. I have 77 pages left, and that's 1h in audio, but I just can't. I had to make myself pick it up. I'll still read the next one because it's a novella 😂
The other Mercy books were engaging too, but, from the 5 ch I read, this one feels like it pulls you even more in.

This one has 2 fairly strong storylines. I just didn't love how disparate they were. The whole time the werewolf stuff was going on, I was worried about Phin and the Fae.

I did still very much enjoy. It is impressive that we have done so many in a few months and I'm still looking forward to the next one.

🤞 I'll be able to read it tonight, and catch up.. maybe even finish it 😂
Yeah.. and imagine how many we will do now that we started reading 2 a month. Which reminds me that I need to make a thread for the next 2. It's a Mercy book and then a Charles & Anna book. Any ideas when to start it?

I "love" it when I'm optimistic about something, say I will do it.. and then nothing happens. My free time was eaten by some stupid things.. So instead of listening to books for 3 hours I was waiting for some stupid thing to pick up.
I listened to chapters 6 and 7. So far nothing much to say.
I hope they find some solution for Sam. Atm I think that's the thing that interest me the most in these books.

      * Awww, Ben gave Mercy a hug. I would really like to see a friendship between them.
* Auriele was the person that was guarding Mercy in the beginning, one of the first books, right? I like how she became someone that considers Mercy pack and is nice towards her after the beginning they had.
* Since Mary Jo is fighting.. I expect that Mercy jumps in instead of Adam, or to maybe challenge Paul or something.
* YES to Mercy shooting the hijo de chihuahua 😂 I love this insult
* Aaaaaaaaa, Ariana! I had to check if it's the person that was in Samuel's short story because I don't remember the name.. or what exactly happened.. So maybe I should go skimm that story before continuing the book.

Yes to all of this!! I really like the special bond that Ben and Mercy seem to be growing as friends. Chihuahuas are fierce at least...Go check the story! It's important. I definitely didn't remember some of the finer details and how it ended.

I think one was not yes. I think Honey was guarding her in the beginning, not Auriele. When her name appeared I was yeeeeah, it might actually be you. I have no idea who's all in the pack.. and I don't know who is 2nd, and 3rd. I'm like reeeeally bad at it. One is gay and some pack members don't like him because of that, but the other I still don't know who is black? I don't know how people feel about him.
Just finished the story, so I'm going back to the book.

Honey guarded her more regularly for a bit but Auriele has definitely had a turn. They've all had turns at this point.
Honey guarded her more regularly for a bit but Auriele has definitely had a turn. They've all had turns at this point.Darryl is #2, half Asian half African and married to Auriele who is Hispanic and they had bias on their mixed marriage. Warren is #3 and he is gay and definitely faces prejudice.
Enjoy the crazy ending!

Mercy really brings trouble to the pack 😅 But now she kicked the bad alone.. although 🤔 she mostly does kick the bad in the ass in every book, the pack has problems because of that and they try to help her but by the time they get there all the "fun" has ended.
I'm so glad we have "a solution" for Samuel 😄 And I'm really curious what'll happen next. It's good that our next book is a Mercy one.

Yeah, but I think the bitchy bitch that has stuck in my mind is Honey.
wow on #2... I obviously saw all that but my brain didn't make it into one 😂 Thanks for the explanation. Hopefully, I'll remember it now.

Honey was difficult but I think they came to an understanding.
Honey was difficult but I think they came to an understanding. It is ridiculous how much trouble Mercy stumbles into and ends up martyring herself in the end. I'm not sure that all the torture all the time is truly necessary but supernaturals do seem to be extreme.
Ariana coming back was a total shock to me but definitely does make sense as the solution. It will be interesting to see how it works out. Will be sad to have him no longer be Mercy's roommate.
Also, I totally already read the next short story and outtakes from Silver Borne. Thanks again for the PDF!

No problem 😄 I'm just thinking if I should write a review or not for Silver Borne, and going for the stories because there are 2 before the next book.

Oh, wow.. I expected something longer for the Silver borne scene 😂 I'm so shocked it's only 4 pages long.
But yeeey, Ari and Samuel are so adorable. But I'm getting a bit confused with the ending with their story. So the hounds came for her? (when skimming I didn't read that), and she killed her maid creature, everything was falling apart with Samuel so they parted ways?
