What is Twilight? (Writing style and characters)

It's a book that is center on a female character named Isabella Swan. It was meant to be Romantic novel however many people is disgusted by the writing style and the way it was represented. I don't exactly understand what the author is trying to accomplish. It feels like it is trying to be told in first person view and in the format of diary. However I have reason to doubt it is more a rewind because how detail each character's characteristic is described. However it also contained heavily amount of conversation so I have no idea.

Author's choice

Meyer make every chapter thick and putting lots of "too detailed" description about many characters. I think it could intentional or it's just poor writing again I have no idea but it is very strange. The story almost always start from the female character waking up go to school or something else go back home sleep. It's almost like intentional. I personally don't hate it but some people say this is lazy writing. I felt like this is more her way of keeping everything consistent and to fit her writing style.

Isabella Swan

Many people hate the female character and criticized her as selfish and stupid. I disagree. First of all she lives in a imperfect family and her mom and dad are literally jerks and so I could give empathy to her selfishness and argue that it is due to her insecurity and lack or love. Many people talk about how she is a product of anti-feminist. This I don't know. She describe herself as a very normal looking person. This is very hard to know if this is true since who would brag how good they look in their diary. I did think she is a unreliable narrator though and whatever she say I would probably take a grain of salt. Consider the fact that in the story she is good at literature her story telling ability is really bad. She need to be more creative on her words than being creative on trying to almost die and not die. Most story is in linear fashion and she almost always faint or something when the most important scene is revealing and thus many detail were added after she have conscious which really make the story all less fun. I think she is very irrational person and is terrible at sport but that doesn't make her a terrible character. She is intelligent consider she could learn math on her own when her math teacher sucks and that she was in AP bio. She must not been an idiot. She is just irrational.

Edward Cullen

He is Bella's bf and is very good at everything. Many people is annoying by this. More importantly people complained about how Meyers make them(vampires) glow in sunlight stupid. I think it is kinda weird but I wouldn't discredit the author that much because at least she tried to make the story creative. I think it is weird how no one talk about how he is a control freak. Yes he is a stalker but that doesn't really matter because vampire ARE just better than human. It's like human vs insect. They can almost do what they want. It really bothers me when he leaves Bella in book 2. If he do this as an experiment it would just fine but he just leave her and not bother to plan ahead or anything. MAYBE, just maybe it's a collective decision of his family but it's just hilarious he just left her for literally no reason. no explain. no nothing. He even told Alice not to see what would happen to Bella(yes Alice can see the future if you are wondering). Although it probably doesn't matter because Bella can make other vampire's talent utterly useless. We saw that in book 1 that Alice had incorrectly predict her death once. Edward's selfishness and resisting Bella becoming a vampire is also somewhat understandable because who knows if she would still be that special person he couldn't read mind of. But I still think he is a control freak

Plot Hole

many people complains that there are lots of plot holes in the novel. One of them really caught my attention. It goes like this. "Meyer make those vampire so perfect how come they did not take over. This is very interesting and I have a few theory:

(1) They kill each other. This one is quite easy to suspect since she gave it away in the end of book1 that vampire CAN kill each other and that they would be dead for ever if they were burnt. The problem with this theory is that there's no way that so many vampire went killing each other when they have a better alternative(human)
(2)Other things are counterbalancing them. In book 1 it was mentioned that werewolf is vampire's worst enemy and the good thing is that in book two it was told that werewolf won't necessary have to have werewolf parents. It gave me reason to believe that they are variant of Human or their DNA is abnormal and only trigger under very specific condition. They also dies so we don't need someone else to kill them which is good. They also live more closely to human society so they probably won't hurt human that much. The problem with this theory is that the number of werewolf is too unstable while vampire could be form just by a vampire biting another human. And that some vampire could transfer into other form (book2 Victoria). We could also suspect something else that have super natural power(witchcraft or something like that) to balance it but that I don't know.
(3)They want to preserve the natural resource. Perhaps another interesting theory is that vampire could not find a good replacement for human blood and so they preserve them so they won't starve to death.
(4)Hierarchy/Government & super technology. Perhaps the monarch in book 2 also give us some clue. These monarch could not guarantee if they could have the superior position when all the human were now dead and perhaps very importantly they are just too many vampire that has unbelievable talent and so they want to keep what it is right now and to prevent human dying and things to be change. We can even suspect that they develop super technology that just eliminate the need of hunting at all and so human's coexistence just don't bother them at all.

Other question that arise from the novel

Do vampire have disgust system? They were human after all. If they don't what would happen if they eat? are there fatal consequences to it?

What happen to the animal that got bit by those vampire? Do they became animal vampire? lol
...

Conclusion

I personally love the book after first read. It's my first novel since elementary school. I read it because my friend read it too. I understand why people hate this book so much. I think this book is over-hyped and over-hate. It's at best a mediocre novel that give teens a reasonable imaginary world of romance and at worst a terribly structure and bad story telling romance novel. Many part of the book is too dull and too predictable. But I think that a good book should have enough predictability and surprises. The book is a good fit for me because I can read through it with a relatively good pace and can follow up where the story is going. I think the future generation would not even read this and there's no point attacking or shaming people who love this book. The book is probably not worth 3.62 stars but it is really not that that bad. The lack of characteristic of character is probably the downfall of this book. The story is over centralized on Bella and Edward and it is kinda too much. I don't hate this book but I don't see a reason to recommend it to another person as well. So here you go. My very truthful thought on this weird book
