He gestured to the grass. "Have a seat," he invited, doing so himself. In the meantime vines wrapped around Connor again so he couldn't get away.

"I don't think so. Quite eloquent, Miss Grace, and surprisingly diverting." He'd let the vines creep up while she was talking, but not touched her. Now, one wrapped itself around her throat.
JJ flicked his wrists, and the vines around Connor tightened painfully. "Now, Miss Phipps, you will do as I say."

Grace didn't have a choice. Her life was more valuable. "Yes."
JJ handed it back to him. "You will call this number. Its Nadia rain. Come up with an excuse for her to be here. The second she's in sight, you will both swear to be my slaves."

JJ further tightened the vines around Connor's throat so that he was unable to breathe.
Nathan's gun was aimed at JJ's heart.
"If you kill me," JJ said, "your brother dies. So does Stephanie, remember?" He choked out a laugh. "I gave that command a long time ago."
Nathan hesitated. He remembered that. But once JJ is dead, Steph wouldn't have to obey him. Right?
