Though the fire hurt that was what helped him escape the vines a few moments after being dragged in when they burned away. He quickly got out of the fire and out it out on himself.

JJ closed his eyes in pain, crumpling to the ground, his legs useless now. The vines around Ian shriveled as he lost focus.
Alberon gave Katava a nod. Smart to go for the legs. The air was filled with the stench of burned flesh.
He suspected they would be freed, but wasnt sure. He said, "Do you really want to take that risk?"
Fair point. "Look, most of us here are WTS. I just want to know what your intentions are and see if they benefit us in any way."

Scarlett glanced st Emma. She may be WTS but she'd rather see her brother dead before he caused more trouble.
"Oh, yes, no harmful intentions at all. The fact that I won't be able to walk for months was just a happy accident."

Thunder was rumbling a little bit thanks to Scarlett.
Kat looked up at the sky, slightly confused.
Emma watched Ian momentarily before adding, "Are you trying to take his place?"

He shrugged. He was just here to carve out his space. For now, he'd rather work with Chase than take him out--he wasn't sure he was strong enough yet--but figured he would have eventually. ideally he'd get Chase in a deal.

Scarlett was standing near Kat, muttering 'sorry' though the thunder rumbled again and clouds were moving in.
JJ shifted so that his back was against a tree and his ruined legs stretched out in front of him.
Emma smirked. "And why do you need slaves?"
Katava felt like running away. Everything felt too close to her. Her instinct was to call Nathan, but she knew she couldn't. Not now. Who knew when she could again. She didn't know how to feel or what to think. Kat couldn't tell if she was mad at Nate, and if so, for what? It's a mess. All of it. I need to get out of here, but there is no way out.
