Started Sea of Tranquility. I'm quite impressed. This is going some interesting places. Short book, so won't take me long to finish.

Rachel | 3524 comments Heads up about the group read Sea of Tranquility Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

First off I just finished it and I thought it was great. What I didn’t know until I read it was that there would be spoilers for her previous 2 books.
The spoiler for station eleven has to do with the fate of one of the characters. I don’t think it ruins that book in any way but wanted to let you all know. There are multiple spoilers for the Glass Hotel because some of those characters appear in this novel and much of what happened in the glass hotel is recounted in this book.

You don’t need to read any of her previous books to enjoy this one but if you’re interested in her previous two books, I would read them before this one to avoid spoilers.

I will now be reading Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel in the near future.

So, Rachel, it sounds like you've read The Glass Hotel and Station Eleven. Have you read any of Emily St. John Mandels earlier less known books? Her bio says there are three other books. I was wondering of they are worth reading.

No, but I really enjoyed Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel. I didn’t even realize until I read Sea of Tranquility that she wrote anything before station eleven.

Yes. The audiobook had multiple narrators and was excellent.

Rachel | 3524 comments I forgot to update that I finished Black Cake Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson and enjoyed it. It works for hidden past. If you enjoy books about families then I would recommend it.

I was wondering where you disappeared to Franzi.
I have just started reading my first Karin Slaughter novel, False Witness and Rachel wasn't exaggerating with the warning about explicit/graphic writing, still I'm enjoying it.

Are The Good Girl and The Good Daughter two different books?

I coincidentally read a book titled The Daughter last week (doesn't work for the challenge) and found some editions were just titled Daughter dropping "The", but it is the same book.

The Unheard is one of four Nicci French Novels I've read so far (and will be reading more in the future). So far, I've enjoyed all - I've given them 4 stars each. The quality of the writing/ storytelling seems to be pretty consistent.
The Unheard by Nicci French The Other Side of the Door by Nicci French House of Correction by Nicci French Secret Smile by Nicci French

Will be reading The Lying Room and What to do When Someone Dies before the end of the month, after which I'll have to see if I'm still in the mood for more Nicci French.

Franzi | 74 comments Hello
I couldn’t find a Slaughter one called The Good Girl?
I’m about 100 pages into my first book of hers and was struggling a bit to stomach the first chapter.. don’t know why it surprised me so, given her surname 😅

Still very keen to read on… just might try not to eat whilst reading until I’ve finished it ;-)

Just to clear up any confusion-
Karin Slaughter doesn’t have a book called The Good Girl-that’s Mary Kubica The Good Girl by Mary Kubica .

I’m not sure if you saw my post at the beginning of the challenge but Karin Slaughter’s books are known for graphic violence. Reading her books on an empty stomach is probably a wise choice ;)

Slaughter - probably the most appropriate name for the type of books she writes.

I'm currently trying to read Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter.

The Lost City was featured in this challenge so thought I'd mention that it's a very entertaining film and I've watched it six times in the theater so far. The Lost City is now streaming and will be released on DVD in July. The Lost City stars Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt.
