I didn't like that Tania refused to believe that Etienne was bad, even when he was literally telling her what he was up to. I guess she just wished it wasn't true, but I was dying. Like come on girl, he's the bad guy!! (hide spoiler)]

I mean I get that women had it hard in 1600s and their goals was to get a good and influential husband (at least for a lot of women and their parents). So I guess her mom wants to help her but it sucks for Tania because she doesn't care about husband or social status. She wants to fence!

Same! I love their relationship! I have not read the synopsis in months since I bought the book so I'm not sure what exactly is about to happen, but I can feel the foreboding sense of it and I'm already sad about it.

Also Tania's mother frustrates me at the moment, but I'm severely hoping she undergoes a character change bc having such an unsupportive parent must be awful for her. (hide spoiler)]

Portia, Aria, and Thea are just great! The pep talk they gave her in chp 13 was beautiful. I really appreciate strong friendship and loyalty bonds between characters in books, especially a group of women. There's so many times when they like to pit women against each other (like her old friend), so I love when sister like bonds are explored. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Their friendship is great! I agree about pitting women againist each other. It's happening way too often. On the other hand, thanks to this you can see this friendship shine. Especially in this book because Tania didn't really had any friends in her hometown. She is still pretty insicure about that and she has to learn to trust them. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I have to confess I don’t usually pay attention to how characters looks like (unless it’s repeated several times) so I don’t really know who has golden brown hair. But when he showed up my first thought was that it’s Étienne. It’s someone Tania knows for sure.

I love that we got to know more about Aria. It’s sad history (but she got lucky with her father) but so many things make sense now! (hide spoiler)]

Overall this was an amazing book. I enjoyed it so much! I liked this whole cast of characters, representation of chronical illness and her relationship with her father. I was actually surprised I could see it through the whole book even though her dad died fairly soon. (hide spoiler)]

That was so good. THE REVEAL WAS GREAT!

I knew Portia and Aria liked each other!

This book was so good and had a hugely diverse cast for 1600s France. The foreshadowing was done so well in this book! It was the exact right amount of huh that might lead to this without being obvious.

I'm going to think on my thoughts a bit more and write a review. The author's note made me emotional at the end. (hide spoiler)]
