Did Max and Ryan underestimate Phillip Colter’s dangerous nature? Should they have done more earlier to protect Eve?

I don't think they every considered that Phillip could be Eve's father or that he would strike out at Eve. If they had, I'm sure they would have put her in protective custody.

This is one of those, hindsight gives a better perspective, situations.

[Melissa]

I agree, Sharon. They didn't know that Phillip would count back the years and come to this conclusion.

They absolutely underestimated how dangerous Phillip was. Everyone thought Jimmy was Eve's father, even if no one thought Phillip could be Eve's father they should have been more protective of her as Martha's daughter and someone Phillip might take revenge on. Only Phillip caught the timing on the timeline.

They had no way of knowing about Phillip as Eve’s father as only Martha, Jimmy and Phillip knew it was a possibility.

One of the things that bothered me though is how Max never suspected that her cottage was being entered. She never suspected a thing and maybe if she had, their fears for Eve might have arisen earlier. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt here.

It sounded like Gabriel and Brian were very careful to not disturb anything and make Max suspicious. Also, her investigation was personal. I think that threw her off her game.

There was no reason for Max or Ryan to think Eve may have been in danger from Colter. They thought Jimmy was her father.
