When Max reaches Cape Haven, she meets a very cooperative sheriff, a friendly co-owner of Havenly Brian Cooper and an extremely hostile Gabriel Truman. What did you think initially was behind his animosity towards Max?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I thought that Gabriel was connected to Martha's disappearance in some way. I was hopeful that Max would find her mother since the sheriff seemed so helpful.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments Fear. Gabriel was so afraid of his family history being brought up again and having to relive his brother's failures. I also feel like he had been looking over his shoulder for the last 16 years waiting for the next ball to drop.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments The sheriff didn't have a clue as to the hornet's nest Max was about to kick over and wanted to help the celebrity news reporter.

Cooper was an interesting character. Brennan didn't disclose much about him and that made me wonder about him.

I agree with Melisssa: Gabriel was hostile because of his fear that Max would destroy his family. At the beginning though, I thought he might have had a part in Martha's disappearance.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with you. After a short time, it was obvious that Gabriel was afraid.

My initial thought was he had something to do with Martha’s disappearance. As soon as we got his point of view, I learned it was well-founded fear.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I thought it was clear that Gabriel had something to hide. He was afraid that Max was going to uncover whatever he wanted kept quiet.
