We also get Eve’s story of her teen romance with Ralph when she was just 15-years old. Were you engaged in that storyline or was it a distraction? Did you believe he was the man she ultimately ended up being with before it was revealed?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments I loved it! But I do have to say that there were a lot of different timelines to keep straight, but I'm smart enough to do it. I wanted him to be the man she ended up with, but I wasn't at all sure he would be.

Robin (robinmy) | 2466 comments I liked this story. The way she was telling the story to Amy, I thought Ralph was killed at Dunkirk and she married someone else after the war. I was actually surprised that he survived.

Honestly? The first time I read this, Eve’s story didn’t feel impactful and was distracting. This time around on audio? Powerful. I favored it more than the other storylines…well, not more than Sam & Alyssa😏 It was a combination of the narrator and my maturing as a reader. I saw stuff I missed the first time.

I had given up hope that Ralph was the man she married until Amy asked what her great grandfather’s first name was. Loved it!

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments I was surprised that Ralph survived too. Jonetta, I listened this time too. Eve's story was more powerful than when I read it. I enjoyed her story both when I read it and listened, but listening added more to the story.

Glad to know you had the same experience, Sharon. The narrator gave a strong performance as Eve.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments It surprised me that it was so powerful, as I read it for the first time a couple months ago and it was still fresh in my memory. You're right the narrator gives an excellent performance.
