Pgr | 2 comments - I read it about 20 years ago
- it was a short story inside a short-story anthology, probably edited somewhere between 1960-1980
- it was originally written in English, most likely in the UK, although there's a slight chance it was in US
- the story occurs in early 20th century
- the story happens in a rural village, I think it's in Ireland, but not sure, maybe Scotland, maybe England

Radio is a recent invention and someone in the village gets one, and we read about how it disrupts the evening habits, the trust between people, the social concerns and tastes.

My memories are very vague, for example, I don't really remember any characters... I do remember it's not humorous, it's more of a drama although I don't think anything really dramatic happens, just the small things adding up to big changes. Thanks!

Pgr | 2 comments I went back and re-checked a shelf and... there it was. So, to answer myself...

This is a short-story called "The Wireless Set" by George Mackay Brown.

It is part of an anthology called "Modern Short Stories 2: 1950-1980", selected and introduced by Giles Gordon, edited by Everyman Paperbacks, 1982
