A Noise Downstairs by Linwood Barclay 3 stars (WPF)

Paul Davis is an English professor in a college. One day he sees a fellow professor driving erratically and catches him trying to dispose of two bodies (this all happens in the first chapter so not a spoiler). Paul is nearly killed by his colleague. Now 8 months later he's suffering from PTSD and is seeing a psychiatrist. He decides to begin researching the crime to help him cope with what he witnessed. His wife buys him a typewriter,which he's always wanted, as inspiration. Then Paul begins hearing typing in the night but no one is at the typewriter. This would have been a lot scarier if I hadn't figured out one of the main twists right from the beginning of the book. There was one twist at the end that I didn't predict which helped raise my rating up a bit.
