30.4 - TessaVanessa's Task: National Library Week 2022

National Library week April 3-9

I have worked in a library for 30 years and celebrating libraries is important to me. Books are my love and reading is my passion. The constant learning that goes on with reading has made me who I am today.
Help me celebrate libraries by choosing 2 of these options and reading a book for each.

Required: State the options when you post.

Option 1: The Library of Ashurbanipal. The world's oldest known library was founded sometime in the 7th century B.C. for the “royal contemplation” of the Assyrian ruler Ashurbanipal. Located in Nineveh in modern day Iraq, the site included a trove of some 30,000 cuneiform tablets organized according to subject matter. Can you imagine carrying around stone tablets so you could get your reading fix? We are lucky that technology has created a portable tablet to read from.
Read a book that has all the letters from TABLET in the title only.

Option 2: Materials that can be checked out from the library have changed over the years. Many libraries have seed collections, cake pans, and gardening tools to name a few; at one time we even had Polaroid cameras available to check out.
Read a book checked out from your local library that has exactly one number 3 OR 0 (not both) in the number of pages (in honor of my 30 years). Your book can be a print or digital borrow. SRC page number rules apply.
Required: State in your post that you checked it out from your library.

Option 3: Libraries are so much more than the materials stored in the building. We have sponsored yarn craft classes, gardening presentations and solar energy groups, as well as community reads, cooking demonstrations and a weekly writers group.
Read a book by a single author that has all the letters of MORE in the author's first and last name. Other name parts are excluded.

Option 4: The theme from the ALA (American Library Association) for 2022
“Connect with Your Library,” promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology by using broadband, computers, and other resources.
Read a book that has a word in the title/subtitle of at least 4 letters that can be made from Connect with Your Library. Letters can only be used as many times as they appear in the phrase.
Required: State the word in your post.

Bea I chose a book with 304 pages. I know it is either a 3 or a 0 but will this work? It contains both. [Option 2]

Of course, Tess will answer officially, but I see it says "not both"

Read a book checked out from your local library that has exactly one number 3 OR 0 (not both) in the number of pages (in honor of my 30 years)

It will not work. The book can only have a 3 OR a 0, not both

Bea Thanks. I missed the "not both". Glad I asked.

Option 1- Does this mean it MUST have two "T"s?

Yes

Re: option 4, does the title word have be found within a single word of "Connect with Your Library", or can it come from within the whole phrase? I was going to go for Relic, but it pulls letters from all over the place.

It can come from a combination of all the words. So relic will work.

Robin P | 1609 comments I first thought that for Option 3, the letters MORE had to be in the first name and AGAIN in the last name which seemed hard. You would need a name like Monroe Emerson. But I see someone posted the task and interpreted that the letters only had to be found once in the total letters of both names - for instance, if an author was named Robin Michaels, that would work. Is this 2nd interpretation the correct one?

Robin Michaels would work.

Robin P | 1609 comments Thanks, I just made up that name as an example, I appreciate the clarification.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4447 comments Question re Option 4: Read a book that has a word in the title/subtitle of at least 4 letters that can be made from Connect with Your Library

Will a proper name work?
For example: Clayton Byrd Goes Underground
"Clayton" can be made from the letters in the target phrase, but I'm not sure proper names work. (NOTE: I know this particular book cannot be used because it doesn't meet the AR bookfinder requirements ... I'm just using it as an example to illustrate the question.)

Yes, that would work.

Clarification needed for option #2-

If I read a book The Smiler with the Knife as part of an omnibus, The Nicholas Blake Treasury Volume 2, which pagination do I use? The full omnibus? The pagination for the 1st mmpb of the individual title? The ending page of the book in the omnibus?

This would matter if my book is eligible or not.

Can an option be used twice?

No. 2 different options should be chosen.

message 24: by Deedee (new)

Deedee | 2344 comments For Option 2, would a page count of 336 work? There is a 3; there is not a 0; but there are two 3s. Thanks!

It would not work. There can only be one 3 or one 0

The apostrophe would exclude it.
