What did you think of the way time travel worked in the novel? Does whether time travel mechanics make sense to you affect your enjoyment of a story? How does this compare to other time travel books/shows/movies you like?

Bailey (baileyknight) I think the idea of "time travel" as also absorbing moving through space is often just accepted; it certainly is here. Interestingly, Henry only ever moves to moments that are paramount within his lifetime and Clare's lifetime. I find it very interesting that after meeting Clare, he has the ability to travel to points in her timeline, as well. The only other time he does this is once, with Ingrid, at her suicide, and that's very peculiar, too. (Unless I am not remembering another instance... and I am obviously excluding Alba, who is his daughter, because it makes the most sense to met they would jump in & out of each other's timelines.)

Lieselotte | 14 comments Didn't he travel to points in his mother's timeline as well, I'm not sure about it but I think he mentioned it once. So maybe he travels in Clare's, Ingrid's,... timeline because they are people he loved and who had a serious impact on his life?

Rachel Smith | 1 comments I found it very intriguing that Henry's time traveling seems so limited. As compared to other time travel stories where they can go pretty much anywhere and time, Henry seems very tied to the Chicago area and timelines with people he knows. I know he once said that the more important the event the more "pull" it has for him. For example, his visits to his mother's death and I suppose his various meeting with Clare. His interactions with his past/future selves also made for very interesting scenes, especially since most other time travelers avoid this scenario at all costs.

Laura Lawson | 12 comments I found it very interesting where he traveled, throughout his life and the life of those close to him. I also found the rules of time travel interesting in that there really didn't seem to be any. He could use the information from the future to help him and his reasoning of it happens because it happens. Definitely different for me.
