Michael (fisher_of_men) In 1 Thessalonians 5:19, believers are warned not to quench the Holy Spirit. What is meant by quenching the Spirit? How can a Christian quench the Holy Spirit? How can we avoid doing it?

Nicholas (authormaze) | 25 comments We think of consuming a beverage. In actuality, quench means to put something out. That's why they say quench my thirst. You are getting rid of thirst. So, quench means to put out or extinguish the Holy Spirit. Rid this being of its great power; never do that.

Nicholas (authormaze) | 25 comments It's done by neglecting the Holy Spirit and not utilizing the great power of the Holy Spirit.

Yan | 38 comments There's a good article here to explain what it means to quench the Holy Spirit: http://www.gotquestions.org/grieve-qu...

To me, it means doing something that's knowingly wrong.

Nicholas (authormaze) | 25 comments Definitely. You, me, and the article are saying the same thing, just with different wording.
