Little Baby - The Blue Rondos

The Blue Men were originally a skiffle group called the West Five. Amazing that this psychedelic sound was recorded in 1959.

An instrumental that was banned by the BBC for being too scary.

Jemma, do you have a source that says this track was a Joe Meek product? I know they were working with him in 1961 when he produced "You Got What I Like" but I thought "Got To Get You Into My Life" was produced by Paul McCartney. happy to be corrected.

I think maybe I’ve picked the wrong nom coz originally it was a Beatles song to be honest I wasn’t that sure in the first place.
I’ll delete and have another look.

Wondrous Place - Billy Fury ..."
Are you sure? Joe Meek produced Billy's brother Albert (Jason Eddie & The Centremen) but I don't know of him ever producing Billy. Wiki says it was produced by his then manager Jack Good. I'd love to include any Billy Fury track (big fan here!) but a bit of googling found this on the Record Collector site:
"Billy Fury: Joe Meek never recorded anything with Billy with a view to commercial release. For one thing, Billy was an established Decca recording artist and for another, Larry Parnes managed him. The Tornados (backed) Billy for a long time and Joe would often tape rehearsals at 304 Holloway Road for reference purposes. The tapes still exists."

Lots been happening...and hopefully Val or Isabella can C&P a large post i've put on my group since this tablet doesn't have that function..but the condensed story is that my op is due next week. I cannot remember what was posted last time i was here, but the issue is this: i have cancer of the bowels. A large aggressive tumour is growing in my intestines and thus needs to be removed along with some of my intestines....then i'll be on the olde drugs to kill off the remaining cells for a time. With any luck this tumour won't present any complications when i have the op..but it's been 3 months since i was diagnosed with having this tumour, so it's hard to know what further damage has been done, with i'm crossing everything atm. There is a fair bit of pressure in my stomach presently, so imagine this tumour has grown quite a bit since. But i remain in good spirits and ever hopeful things will work out..but i'm in for the long haul for the forseeable time. My op is in 5 days time.
That's the quick version folks...but if you want and you find my other group Beyond Zon, you'll find the full post on the daily posts thread.
In any case, since the cream of rounds are done (i didn't have anything to offer this year, i've not bought much in the last 6 months or more)..but my nomination is coming up next and i do have a nom for it Val, if you could add it in for me please, thank you. I'll send you a PM shortly. I of course cannot vote....as should i not die during my op next week, i'll be in one of their beds recovering for a time!
Never let it said that i've lost my weird sense of humour yet at least! lol!
Hope everybody is well and maybe at some point i will be back joining in the fun once again...but until then, wish me luck folks...i think i might need it!!!
Tar tar far naw! :)

I've a soft spot for the early 60s so I'm nominating any track that was produced by Joe Meek in his upstairs flat in the Holloway Road. There were plenty of hits (probably even more misses) but I'm going to use my executive power and disallow "Telstar" by The Tornados and "Johnny Remember Me" by John Leyton as they've been nominated in other themes and the latter was a resounding winner of the theme about Johnny songs.
If you don't know Joe Meek, he was a very interesting, if tragic, character. Has been described as Britain's answer to Phil Spector on a shoestring. If you haven't seen the film "Telstar", it's worth a go. Excellent cast and some of the folk who were there at the time play bit parts (Clem Cattini, Jess Conrad).

So here's hoping we can get (maybe) ten nominations for this odd bit of British pop history.
