Alyan's poetry is certainly descriptive and emotional, but is very personal to her and I just can't relate, though she certainly can make a reader feel. She travels a lot, major middle eastern cities to rural middle America. She seems to struggle with-maybe overcome-at least temporarily rape, sexuality, identity... As poetry, not factual recordings, these are emotional and subjective with detailed images. It was unsettling. Any poetry collection that triggers emotions is successful, though I don't think I will remember or return to these poems. I thought I saw she also wrote novels. I am curious about her language and vision with more structure and detail.
