I’m finding this book interesting. Particularly the commentary on race and the LGBTQIA+community. I find Ike and Buddy Lees POV difficult to read from, but also I think important. I hope this book is able to stand up to what it seems ras be doing.

Took a little while to get into it and wasn’t sure how I’d feel seeing that I normally read fantasy but I’m enjoying it now. Going to be a push to get through it before the end of the month seeing that I only started it this afternoon 😅

Unpopular opinion but I'm not loving this one so far. Although, I do think it has handled a lot of important discussions well, including the truck scene that others have mentioned. I don't know if the violence is just too far outside my comfort zone or if it's something else to do with the writing style, but I'm having a hard time with it atm. I am flying through it though bc of the short chapters, so I'm hoping it gets better for me.

It's definitely interesting reading from the perspective of a type of character I never have before. I'm really interested to see how they both develop as they're in pretty different starting places in terms of their life situation.

The portrayal of grief is the strongest aspect for me so far, it's the best written and most engaging part. I'm really curious how it will go from here as the other aspects ramp up. Not sure how to feel about the writing style? it fits the characters, but can be a bit tough to get through at times. The crudeness of the descriptions again fits the characters but is a bit much and kind of takes me out of the story.
