Danielle Travassos | 2 comments Hello everyone,

I’m working on my first draft and I’m looking to connect with editors and proofreaders that can help me in this journey.
This is my first book so I don’t have a lot of experience and English is not my first language.
I’m hoping to connect with someone that has experience with fiction but also has reasonable rates since I’m really getting started.
I think I’ll need both a proofreader and an editor, ideally it would be the same person and hopefully we could get something worked out for both jobs.
It would be great to have a sample if possible.

I’m in canada so it would be great to have some with US English experience ( as I know it can differ from UK).

I’m looking forward to connect with you.

Many thanks for taking the time to read my post
Best regards
Danielle

Manda Waller (httpsmandawallercouk) | 4 comments Hello Danielle,

I’m a kind, cheerful editor who works primarily with first time indie authors, including some who became Amazon bestsellers.

I offer free sample edits and transparent prices which are clearly displayed on my website.

I have availability from March, work in US English and would be delighted to answer any questions.

The important thing is to find an editor who you feel will support you and encourage you on your journey.

Good luck!

Manda

P.N. Elrod (pnelrod) | 90 comments :editor with 30 years experience here:

Please take this seriously, it WILL save you money.

At this point you are NOT ready to hire an editor.

A first book, first draft needs to be looked at by beta readers in a workshop situation. You can do this for free in the right kind of group for your genre. They can give you the feedback you need to make the book even better.

Hiring an editor is absolutely the last step in the publishing process -- last!

Find a writing group for your genre, tell them what you just told us and offer to give feedback to get feedback. Let them know if you want gentle help or a brick in the face.

There are groups here on GR and on Facebook. A search there for "Writer/writing group, romance (mystery, literary, etc.) will get you started.

Join up, read posts and comments, make sure you feel comfortable there.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. A writer's worst enemy is impatience. Take your time, get feedback, rewrite as often as needed and craft something awesome!

Lily (starlightmoonlight) | 4 comments I agree with P.N. here! You will want to connect with a writing group while you finish up your first draft and go through edits on your own a few times. Hiring a professional editor and proofreader(s) comes near the end. I understand that perhaps you're just wanting to have some contacts for when your book is ready for an editor, but I wanted to put this out there just in case :)

Jaz Bromen | 2 comments Hey Danielle!!

I learned to love reading due to an early obsession with books. Novels are my favorite, but I do it all! I will work with you from page one to publication if that is what it takes. I am hard-working and particular. I also offer FREE samples of your work to see if we are a good fit!

I am extremely detail-oriented when it comes to grammar. I will edit AND proofread, giving you feedback on all aspects of your grammar, spelling, syntax, style, and anything else you want specific feedback on.

I am meticulous in my work, and I keep to my schedule, barring any extenuating circumstances. My feedbacks are extremely detailed and I work very hard on the editing projects. I read hundreds of books per year, and I have been reading for almost two decades. I am willing to edit series as well!!

I will leave all of my comments and feedback in the Word document of the manuscript you send to me. If you would prefer to use a different program, please let me know, and I will see what we can do.

I have very reasonable rates, and would love to help you get started!

Regular, clear, and punctual communication is vital to me, so let's keep in touch!

Remember, when life gives you melons, you need a proofreader!!!

Feel free to also check out my profile on Upwork: https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~0...

My email address is jbromen@fioptics.com

Hoping to hear from you
Jaz
