I haven't had a good science fiction kick in a while so I picked up Cradle, jointly written by Arthur C. Clarke and Gentry Lee, published in 1988. This book did not really deliver. I've enjoyed stories in the past by Arthur C. Clarke. This story is focused on how an American journalist and her rented boat guides come across alien technology involved in a plan to re-home species between planets. Almost all of it takes place in Miami on boat rides and in meetings, and I felt it was missing that broad-scoped other-worldly feel.

One bit I did like was it was set 6 years in the future - 1994 - and alot of the technology the characters were using as "advanced" sounded close to what we have today: video conferencing, high-resolution image scanning, image processing to identify anomalies, high-density storage drives, and more.

Overall, not a good or bad story, but it does not stand out. I'd give it a C, rate it a 3 out of 10, and would not recommend it.
