Not sure if I will read after finding a copy as I haven't read any of the previous Culture books.

Each Culture book pretty much stands alone. As I’ve read the books, I’ve gained more understanding of the Culture itself, but I don’t believe they need to be read in any order.

About half done, and it sure doesn’t read like science fiction! Interested to see where it goes.
I will drop in the local library in the next few days and check to see if they have a print copy. If they do I will give it a go. If not I will likely skip. No ebook available. Retirement.....long on time to read....short on funds....
I read (and liked) the first three Culture books but this will skip over a couple in the publication order for me. I only started a reading them because I occasionally ask friends and random acquaintances to nominate a book I should have read but which they think I probably didn't. One friend nominated The Player of Games (Culture book 2). My friend was right. I like that each Culture book so far is "in the same universe" as the others but can be read independently and probably in any order anyway. Looking forward to this one later in the month.
I don’t think publication order matters with the Culture books. I’ve read them all out of order (except for the last 3).
The only other Culture book I've read is Consider Phlebas, and I didn't love it. But this one looks interesting and I've heard that they're all very different so maybe I'll give it a shot if I have time.
