I liked Discord for the pregaming but now that the judgements are coming in, I find I want the discussion to be on Disqus. Maybe just comfy habit. There's some interesting discussion on Discord right now but actually not as much as on Disqus.

Lauren Oertel | 1390 comments Things aren't loading in Discord - I think the ToB broke it! Might be a sign that we need to stay on Disqus...

message 53: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) | 3 comments Disqus is not predicted to be around long-term, that's why the organizers have been looking for a sustainable solution. I don't mind Discord, I just hate having the discussions in two different places. Well three if you count here, but I'm used to GR and Disqus already. :-)

message 54: by Kyle (new)

Kyle | 899 comments Yeah, at least have the commentary on the same page as the judgment, is my thing...

thanks maybe that explains my issue

ETA: I was finally able to get in!! There is a nice discussion going on, not overwhelming (possibly because most people couldn't get in!)

Amy (asawatzky) | 1743 comments bad news folks - there are interesting threads (although it's tough to deem them threads when they don't all waterfall under their starting point) over in Discord too! (but not nearly as much as themorningnews.org page!)

Yeah, I don't like the way replies work in Discord; I definitely prefer the "waterfall" replies in Disqus. I have not enjoyed going back and forth between them as there are interesting discussions both places but it is TOUGH to keep up. Arrrgh.

Highfive, Lauren! I thought Copeland Cane was good enough to deserve a guess from me. :D

Thanks for all who recommended this book. I started the audiobook today and am seriously hooked. Although I am also hoping for a Zombie appearance by The Sentence.

AK | 3 comments I'm a little embarrassed to ask, especially as my first post here, but I'm trying to get on to the Discord, and every link I've tried for ToB says it's invalid. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone give me a new link, or talk me through what to do? I've put off learning Discord forever, and now I'm afraid I'm paying for it.

Hi, to be honest, most of the conversation has been via Disqus on the judgment pages. I recommend the "Email the TOB" link on the header bar here and explain your difficulty: https://themorningnews.org/tob/2022/h...

Good luck - see you there!

message 64: by AK (new)

AK | 3 comments Thanks, I'm definitely active on Discord, so I'm glad I'm not missing as much as I thought. I'll definitely email them just to cover my bases though!

message 65: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Oertel | 1390 comments Well my winning streak was fun while it lasted, but today's judgment put an end to that. We now have Kip, Tina, and Elizabeth in the lead - congrats!

Does anyone think Nervous System will win in (what I assume would be) an upset tomorrow? I just finished it last night, so I didn't know what to do with it when I made my bracket.

Thanks, Lauren! It was a nice surprise being on top for a little while at least, but it looks like today's decision and my love for The Sentence will be my downfall. (And I'm okay with that, particularly the latter.)

message 67: by Kip (new)

Kip Kyburz (kybrz) | 542 comments This is the least I have ever read when TOB started (only 7 books with 2 more DNFs) so of course this is the year I am near the tope.

So the moral to the story then appears to be that we should all just throw darts at the bracket.

A Random Walk Down the Rooster

I gave up playing to win, now I play my heart. And in my heart, =The Trees= and =All's Well= meet to battle it out for the Rooster.

As they do for me, Tim. As they do for me, but I truly believe that is not only my heart speaking, but also because they are the two best books (in every way) of the ToB.

It's what brings us back year after year, right?

message 73: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Oertel | 1390 comments Congrats to Heather on the bracket win! Is your "to-read" Goodreads shelf up to date (all books you don't already own)? If so, can those of us who are excited to send you a book DM you for your shipping address? :)

message 74: by Heather (new)

Heather (hlynhart) | 411 comments Wowie! I had no idea! Gifts of books are absolutely not necessary, but will not be turned down. And I just looked at my to-read and cleaned it up a bit.

Congratulations, Heather!!!! Quite an accomplishment in this crazy year. (I see Chouette on your TBR. Do you not have it yet? If not, I'll buy it for you!)

Great! I'll DM you for an address. Depending on where you are, I'll probably order from the nearest local bookstore.

Thanks for calling that, Elizabeth, so we didn't all get the same one! ;)

I do have a copy of Chouette already, graciously gifted by Lark's publisher.

Heather (hlynhart) | 411 comments Thank you so much Elizabeth and Lauren for my amazing books! I was gifted Hell of a Book and Angel of Greenwood for winning the bracket competition and I'm so excited to read both!

Yay - enjoy!

(Not sure why I didn't see this until now, but I'm glad the book arrived!)
