Uncommon Type by Tom Hanks - 4*

I had heard that Tom Hanks collected old typewriters - and so was curious enough to pick up the audio of this book when it Audible had it on sale a while ago. The Books about Books tag bumped it up on the TBR.

Who knew that one of my favorite actors could write? I like short stories, and know that it is a skill to be able to write good short stories. And IMO, Tom Hanks can and did write pretty darn good short stories in this collection.

My Favorites:
- Three Exhausting Weeks - the first of three stories featuring a group of friends. I really identified with the protagonist in this story :-).
- Christmas Eve (a very powerful story)
- Who's Who - about a young actress trying to make it in NYC
- The Past is Important to Us - Time travel done right.

But my favorite story in the collection was These are the Meditations of My Heart. Every story in the book had a typewriter in it - in a small or large way. But in THIS story, Hank's passion for typewriters really came through. It helped me to understand how important a good typewriter is and what it can inspire.

Thank you for writing these stories, Tom. They kept me very entertained on a long drive.
