Nobody's Ghoul by Devon Monk
Series: Ordinary Magic #8
Shelf: Free Space (on SOS' BEST OF UF list)
Read: 7 Feb
Rating: ✮✮✮✮☆
I need to start this series. I think I have all the books. I inherited Justin's books when he passed. He loved Devon Monk and owned them all.

I hear ya, LaurLa. I prefer to listen to JRs and still they’re time consuming reads. I’m behind on that series. Got a little burnt out on “shitkickers” and took a needed break.

I feel like I've been on a roller coaster. One like the Twister because it keeps throwing you in different directions until you feel like you have whiplash. I can't not give 4 stars because in the end the author brings it together in sweet and satisfying way (while still leaving many threads loose) but the stop and start storylines about drive me batty in the meantime. I felt like we had some major story movement and closure, but as I said, many threads still left loose. I enjoyed reading again about Wrath and Beth as the recent books had gotten further away from the beginnings with them, so I was very glad and gratified that things turned out the way they did for the King. While I do look forward to the next book because I really do want to know what happens, I know I'll have to gird my loins, so to speak, for the crazy ride Ward will take me on!

Aw man, sorry to hear it's still rough on ya, Cheryl! But, I'm happy to hear you're getting support needed. Hope that continues! Hang in there, girlie! Let 'um know what ya need, when ya need it. You're valuable and I'm sure they know that.

Those wild ride reads with closed, but loose threads some that wrapped up nicely at the end are part of why I had to take a break from that series. I would get frustrated reading/listening, then she'd end it in a way that always, frustratingly, ended up appeasing me somewhat.

The Necromancer's Dilemma by S.J. Himes
Series: The Beacon Hill Sorcerer #2
Shelf #2: Alternate Reality (shelved by 4 people)
Read: 10 Feb
Rating: ✮✮✮☆☆
My Review:
The Necromancer's Dilemma finds Angel and Simeon's mate bond growing, Issac continuing to hide something and Daniel settling in as Angel's apprentice. The two younger man have been through a lot but support each other nicely. If only Angel can find a way to get Issac to open up. Though they're brothers, Angel's previous "job" as parent/guardian has made it difficult for him to find a way to switch their relationship back to that of brothers.
When a mauled body turns up, Angel's suspicious of a supernatural killer but the police aren't convinced his help is necessary as it appears to be human-on-human violence. Angel and gang help Dame Fontaine (Angel's teaching partner) when someone from her past returns. Later, multiple murders occur, finally connecting some dots, making this a supernatural issue. The boys jump in to assist and stop the killer(s). During all of this, Angel and Simeon suffer serious injury and make surprising discoveries about their growing bond.
“Perhaps getting his wings clipped will teach him again that we all have limits, and none of us are gods.”While I enjoyed this installment, some unknown something was missing for me. But, I'm looking forward the next book (The Necromancer's Reckoning), which I hope will have more of this interesting draw between Issac and Constantine. And, I just loved Angel's familiar, Eroch, the lil dragon/former demon.

I've got book #1 I grabbed as a Amz freebie last year. How are you liking that series? Good, I'm guessing, since you're moving onto book #11. ;)

I wouldn't have known about the dead man if I hadn't walked into the kitchen at the exact moment my one and only lodger was about to warm up an eyeball in the wave-cooker.
Vicki DeVine is renovating a rustic property known as the Jumble in Sproing near Lake Silence. Vicki acquired the property in her divorce and is trying to make it a viable lodge. The discovery of a human body brings police officer Wayne Grimshaw to the village and he soon discovers there is much more going on with The Jumble than meets the eye.
It has been several years since I read the last book in The Others. I was concerned that I would miss Meg, Simon and the residents of Lakeside Courtyard. I enjoyed meeting the townspeople of Sproing, human and terra indigene. I love how The Others have embraced Vicki and are concerned about her wellbeing.
Wayne and Julian were two strong characters that pooled their knowledge and resources to fight the secret club that was trying to take The Jumble away from Vicki. And who can resist an amazing vampire? Ilya Sanguinati is gorgeous, smart, and deadly.
The Sproingers remind me of quokka. They seemed like happy little creatures that just wanted carrots. Oh, my how looks can be deceiving. Aggie, Conan and Cougar were excellent representatives of Crowgard, Beargard, and Panthergard. Their loyalty is fierce and touching.
The Elementals are always a wonderful addition. The ponies that accompany the Elementals mirror the element they represent. Loved the scene with Whirlpool!
The story moves along so smoothly that it was hard to put this book down. I kept asking myself why I waited so long to pick this series back up.
This is an excellent addition to the series, and I need to read the next book soon so that I can be ready for the newest release next month.

I haven't totally bought into Kitty and Ben as a couple because I feel unfinished business with Cormac but this book did help me along some. I had a little trouble following the bouncing ball, there was a bit of plot twisting and I'm still not sure if Rick came out a winner with the vamps but I guess for where we are at for now he's the leader. Kitty has a lot of insecurity to be an alpha but I guess that makes it more real? I know there is a lot of series left and I've peeked at the blurbs, so I know things are going happen!

Oh my goodness! I wanna go too! 😊 I wish we'd look for one while we were living in Japan. They were popular there. But, with two kitties at home hubby never felt the need 😏 Hope you had a purrrrring good time!
Great reviews (and reads!), ladies!

I always find one or two that I would like to take home with me. Yesterday it was a young black female that had lost an eye due to infection. Sigh... I have plenty of cats at home. I don't need to be looking for more!

I've enjoyed it. There were a few of the books that were kind of boring/dragging to me, but then there was this new mystery to be solved! Lol! I thought this was the last book, since it was called "Final" Magic and there is a spinoff series....but I just saw there will be a #12 - so the Magic wasn't Final after all!

I've finished both my Week 2 and Free Space books. I'll get the reviews posted before long.

I think Adam Wright has some great ideas and is a talented writer. This book had a gloomy feel and I'm pretty sure it was because of what happened in the previous book which had everyone thinking they and the world were doomed. The story picked up and there were a couple of side stories going on as well.
Sometimes, the Destroyer of Worlds isn't the Bad Guy.
I was the guy you came to when your spouse got bitten by a werewolf, or your boyfriend was kidnapped by a demon. I was the guy who knew what to do when an evil sorcerer casts a curse on you.
At least, I WAS that guy.
Until I destroyed the world.
Now, I'm the guy who's gonna save it.
Go, Alec!
I was happy to see Felicity again and loved the conversations she and Alec had with pop culture references. Gotta love when a book refers to one of your favorite movies!
"But that guy down there doesn't know that. He's probably waiting for you to lead him to the Ark of the Covenant, or something." She rolled her eyes. "Everyone knows that's in a huge warehouse owned by the American government..."
I thought this was the last book, since it was called "Final" Magic and there is a spinoff series....but I saw there will be a #12 - so the Magic wasn't Final after all!!
I'm looking forward so seeing how this cliffhanger gets resolved - surely it will! - and to see if Alec finally gets the girl! I wonder if #12 will be the last book in the series....

There is so much going on in this installment! Humans are rioting against vampires for a "Clean Chicago", the GP has black balled Cadogan House and none of the other houses are allowed to interact with them. There were some fights that I didn't see coming or how they ended. And some free passes that are given by unexpected people. I can't say a lot because I don't want to give anything away!
So, I'm going to talk about the parts that I thought were fun. I read this over Valentine's weekend and thought it was cool that the book is taking place over the same days! (It doesn't take much to make me smile!)
Merit's car needs some serious repairs due to the riots and Gabriel gives her a loner car - a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL - that has Ethan swooning because Gabriel wouldn't sell it to him! Merit names the car Moneypenny.
Ethan goes with Merit to have dinner with her family and the kick-ass alpha-male vampire goes pale and gets all scared at being called "Uncle Ethan".
Then there were the lovey moments. This one had a little bit of everything.

Poor baby. I have such a hard time, too. They're just so damned cute! ;)

I was gonna say I'd check it out since I have the first one free, but maybe not. I've got so (x infinity) many books TBR it's not funny. Best not add on one that had some boring, dragging installments. ;)
