Actually, it was Throne of Glass. I was rereading it for the second time, and at the middle/end, I just ate it up.

It was unique. Beautiful. Sad. And a solid 4/5 <3"

Oh! I was recommended that book. I was about to ask if you would care to share a review, but then I saw you already posted one! So excited to read it! :P

message 53: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments It's a different style of book than I've ever read. I liked it very much! It does drag at times - or I should say there's a lot of potentially unnecessary stuff in there - but it's written so beautifully you almost don't even notice :)

Woww. Good to know!

message 55: by mars (new)

mars | 1 comments currently reading lore, and I would tell everyone to read the priory of the orange tree and dry

message 56: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Priory is on my list! It's a long one though. Might tackle that over a solid 2-3 weeks.

I am keen to read Lore! Let us know what you think :)

message 57: by mars (new)

mars | 1 comments well it was a bit hard to get into it and if you don't know much about greek mythology it could be hard, also lore seems a bit like a "I'm not like other girls" but besides that it's pretty good so far (btw if you start reading priory you really have to go through the first 100 pages and then it really starts getting interesting)

Ohh. I'm really into Greek Mythology XD It's an option for April's BOTM- silently rooting for it. What's Priory about? Never heard of it...

message 59: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Priory of the Orange Tree - I've read the summary and there's a lot of hype surrounding it. I've heard a few people discussing it!

message 60: by mars (new)

mars | 1 comments well it's about different main characters who all have different lifes. they come from different kingdoms and different religions. somehow their lives are tied together but they have to solve problems and hurdles to save the world from a creature that was locked away for 1000 years.
I hope this helps but it's really a great book, especially if you like something with dragons involved

message 61: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Sure does :) yeah such a long book might take a while to get past the introductory stuff :)

I know a little greek mythology but not a great deal.

message 62: by mars (new)

mars | 1 comments yeah even if you'd know nothing you could search it up but I heard that some people stopped reading because of that

Hm...that's true.

Honestly, I used to be all about Greek mythology, but recently I'm getting rusty XD

That's sad- to stop reading a good book just because of the long intro. I get it, though- it's hard to keep reading when the beginning isn't the best.

riley rue (rileyrue) | -41 comments flowers for algernon! flowers for algernon! flowers for algernon!

I had to chant, sorry. It's surprisingly sci-fi; not in the typical sense, but you'll understand after reading it. I finished it in two days... If Jason needs a good book, I suggest it wholeheartedly.

message 73: by Eve (new)

Eve (저녁) Currently I'm reading Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. It's a nice book and interesting though I'm not into thick books. But fat books are having such good stories.........
My previous book was The devotion of suspect X by Keigo Higashino. i loved it. I just completed 1 litre of tears by Aya kito, it had a warm feeling overall.

Leo Tolstoy is the author of War and Peace, right? Reed is currently reading War and Peace- talk about fat books! Both books must take forever to read. That's true, though- there's more time to develop the story and characters in a longer book.

I haven't heard of either of those! What genre are they?

message 77: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments All those big fat chunky reads of the classics is kind of intimidating!

I'll try to climb that mountain one day. It's forever on the TBR pile.

Catherine (semi active) | 1432 comments Mod
Yess- my TBR list is probably twice as long than the books I've read XD

Cool! What are they about? What genre are they?

message 82: by Maddy (new)

Maddy | 90 comments I started the free audible book today. I know it's going to be a really beautiful story - its told from the POV of a 14 year old homeless boy and the intro was heartbreaking - started with a suicide attempt. It had a scene after that that made my skin crawl and I felt physically sick.

I've got a pretty good idea on where this is going - and I know it's going to be heartwarming - but I'm really hesitant because I don't want any more of the horrible sick feeling type scenes. It was very confronting and written in the childs POV - as an adult it's like I'm standing by watching this actually happening to a young person and it is awful.

Aww. Reminds me of The Midnight Library. Realllly sad and heavy.

message 87: by Maddy (last edited Mar 18, 2022 02:54PM) (new)

Maddy | 90 comments Yeah. It was a little less heavy than Midnight Library because it's told by a 14 year old and as the story unfolds you sort of find out his motivations for doing it - and he's so innocent. Still weighty like the library though. I'm waiting for the heartwarming bits but they aren't quite there yet! D:

In the opening scene he wants to jump off a bridge late at night but he sees someone walking toward him. It's an old man. Until he realizes the old man is also on the OUTSIDE of the bridge too, for the same reason. He goes to fall -- the old man grabs him and the panic sets in and he suddenly doesn't want to fall. It really hits you in the feels.

**Sorry for any depressing vibes -- the story is supposed to be heartwarming later on (I think) but this is just a glimpse into the very very very beginning - like first chapter.
