R11: Team #9 ~ Notorious Nine ~

Yeah I seen that. Maybe we will get lucky and get the shelves we need first.

Shelf: Paranormal Romance
3/14/15
★★★★☆
Fast-paced. Action-packed. Super-alpha.
I totally loved this.
Josie's husband is back in her life. But this time he has amnesia. Really, it puts them both on a level playing field, since Josie doesn't really know anything about her husband or his past.
As they try to figure out what's happened to him and who's after them, their almost dead romance comes back with a vengeance.
I was really into this right from the beginning. I loved the introduction of the ex, Shane, and how the author slowly revealed more about him and his brothers. He was majorly alpha, which might have been annoying if the heroine wasn't TSTL sometimes. I liked her, but, holy shimoly, she could be dumb. I think the author wanted her to appear to be a normal girl who was badass, but it came off as over the top at times and, again, just dumb.
Despite that, it was a great story. I couldn't put it down due to both the plot with the brothers and the romance.

Book - Cynful by Dana Marie Bell
Rating - 4 Stars
I really enjoyed this read. Cyn is one of my favorite characters in the Halle community and I knew I would love her book. Cyn and Julian make a great couple because he is all laid back healer type while she is the fierce protector. I also love how close knit all the friends and family are.

Good Job!! :D

I think I might have read this but I'm just blank on it, and still have it on to read shelf.

What? The forbidden love wasn't exciting??? I've only like a few of her books, so I'm guessing i won't be adding this...

Perfect! I was hoping to start my next Psy/Changeling book tonight.

Review: This was my second book by Gena Showalter and I liked it even less than the first one I read. The idea of Atlantis was very cool, but we never really got to learn much about it. Other than visiting a couple of palaces, a pub, and a quick run through the forest; we discover almost nothing about this world. There was a passage near the beginning of the story where Darius is staring out the window of his palace, and the city of Atlantis is described like this "Crowds of Sirens, centaurs, cyclops, griffins, and female dragons ventured from shops and strolled the streets as merchants peddled their wares. Several female nymphs frolicked in a nearby waterfall. How happy they appeared, how carefree." Sounds like a great place, but we readers never get to experience any of it. That is the first and last time that any of those creatures are ever mentioned or appear in the story. There are a few vampires included, but we don't learn much about them either. The story itself is slow, predictable, and just plain boring. I also found it quite comical that Darius has powers and spells that will allow him to do just about anything. Need to heal a wound...dragon saliva works on that. Need to travel a long distance, boom...a time travel spell. Need to know what's happening to other characters in the story...a medallion that works as a crystal ball will help you out....and so on, and so on. It all got very tedious. I think two is my limit for this author and I am officially done!

What? The forbidden love wasn't exciting??? I've only like a few of her..."
Lol, well by looking at the ratings, it seems that everyone else but me liked it.

This is true Sandra. Plus we all just have different expectations for what we read. There are a lot of books that I enjoy, but others do not. Ratings are so subjective anyways. But I do love that this game gets me to read books that I may not ever have read otherwise. I've discovered a lot of great authors this way...plus it gets me out of my comfort zone.

I'm really glad that I just read the previous book. There was a major recap, and a breakdown of all the characters in the front of the book. So if you haven't read Magic Rises, this gives major spoilers out right in the beginning.
Then there was this odd warning preface by Andrews that this really isn't the last book, they have a contract for at least 3 more. I started getting worried - who is Andrews going to kill now ? (view spoiler)
A bit of time has passed, since Magic Rises. Enough that the woman who returned with them in that book has risen through the ranks to become the pack Beta.
Every character and group is here, from Ghastek (cant help but lije that jerk) and the People, the witches, all the various shifters etc.
I am trying not to say much because so many haven't read Magic Rises yet. But the ending here was very different, and I could see why the preface warned that this isn't the last book. It could be, since Andrews wraps up quite a bit.
There was a bit of killing, but only those who needed it (sigh of relief). Kate was quite, uh, evil, but they deserved it.
Worth reading, for sure.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Oh, I had forgotten how much I love Mercy & Riley!
They were fun & sexy together and it was nice change of pace from having a Psy hero or heroine. I also loved that I got to see more from Kaleb.
It's definitely my favorite from my reread so far.

Book - Tattered Loyalties by Carrie Ann Ryan
Rating - 4 Stars
A great start to a new spin-off series by Carrie Ann Ryan. !5 years after the War between the Redwoods and the Centrals is over all the packs are trying to over come everything that happened during the battle. I love seeing all the kids of the other packs slowly taking over and working toward making the shifters whole again. Brie and Gideon where suppose to be wrong for each other with her being a Submissive and him being Alpha but Fate got it right. The story was just how I like my PNR hot, action packed and a great plot. Carrie knows how to write shifters and I can't wait to read more from this series.

Review: I have mixed feelings about this book. I had never read anything by Anne Bishop before and didn't know what to expect. I really enjoyed her writing style and storytelling ability. She really took her time with world and character building, so that the reader really gets invested in what is going on. With some writers, this can feel slow and tedious, but not so with Anne. There were a lot of players in this story, and I began to care for each and every one of them. The problem was that I just wasn't that interested in this particular story. Of course that wasn't the author's fault, but I still will probably not continue with this series. I will definitely check out other books by this author though.

Thanks for the reminder! I'm going to read Wrong Ways Down

Do you think we can win a prize for being the team with the most 2 in a row? This is how all my teams have been ;-}

I had read book 1 years ago, but recently reread it and then the next ones. Loved this series.

Book: Wrong Ways Down

read: 3/27/15
rating: ****
I see this book is listed as 1.5 - but I'm glad I didn't read it then. I didn't really start liking Terrible till book 3. Plus, it doesn't stand alone very well.
This series, Downside Ghosts, is different. It takes place in an alternate world, after ghosts decide to take over. In the aftermath of them trying to kill the living, governments topple, as do all religions. In this world, there is no God. I'm sure this upsets very religious people, but remember, 1. this is fiction; 2. this is an alternate world; 3. this is fantasy.
In the main series, the story is told from the point of view of Chess, a drug addict, witch and works for the "Church" as a ghost debunker. People really dealing with ghosts get money. So those con artists have to be located. It takes several books to really lay out all Chess' problems, and this is a very dark series. It is set in the Downside, which is the slummy, crummy part of town. We don't really see much of the good parts in the other books and not at all in this one. I am desperately waiting for book 6.
The main male character is Terrible, the main enforcer for the crime king in the sector where Chess lives. I didn't like him in book 1, which is why I'm glad I didn't read this then. He is ugly, violent and altogether not a nice person.
This particular book is told from his POV. The people in Downside have a peculiar slang. In the main series, since Chess doesn't use it, most of the books don't use it. Since Terrible does, the whole book does. That made it hard for me to get into when I got this a few months ago. But with hard work, I got past it this time. ;)

Book - Degradation by Stylo Fantome
Rating - 4 Stars
I am not really sure how to rate this book. The writing was really good and it kept me glued to the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it BUT I almost gave up about half way through. I can handle alot of things in the books I read and dark, dirty reads are usually my favorites. BDSM, pain, degradation, asshole Heroes or even group sex or even sharing doesn't bother me at all. BUT what I can't stand is the Hero of the book sleeping with other women without the Heroine. I don't care if it is alright with the Heroine I just lose interest as soon as it happens. BUT I can't really fault the story for my preferences I just don't know if I am interested in continuing the series no matter how curious I am on how it ends.

But 4 stars? I wasn't happy with book 6 of Kate Daniels, and it only appeared the Curran was fooling around, probably should have given it 3

S is for...: Unholy Ghosts
3/27/14
4 stars
I'm kind of obsessed with Terrible. He's my #1 book husband. I'm talking out of all the genres I read, M/M, contemp, PNR... Terrible is #1 in my ♥.
I read this series near the beginning of my book obsesh, so I was worried that he isn't really as amazing as I remembered. When I first started reading everything was awesome and all that. Ya know? You know.
Don't worry. I was right the first time. This big, ugly thug has stolen my heart and he's just as great the second time through.
Now if Chess would just wake the hell UP! Ugh. I want to hate her, but she tugs on my heartstrings. She's so dysfunctional and full of self-loathing. She needs a mom. And maybe some hot cocoa.
But I do love seeing Chess and Terrible grow closer. Chess seeing that there's more to Terrible than people realize and Terrible's obvious affection for her... *sigh*
I think UF is better for me as reread in general. I like knowing what's going on, instead of trying to figure out the world building and such. Instead of trying to remember WTH a psychopomp is, I was more focused on the story. It was good. Can't wait to get to book #2.

The writing was really good which is the reason it got 4 because if it wasn't for the other women kink I probably would have gave it a 5 because I LOVE F**ked up heros.
