Are there any books - standalone or in a series - that you found disappointing or overhyped? Just curious, please respect others' opinions.

Yeah...
The Alchemist, in my opinion, is the most disappointing book I've ever read.

I found Where the Crawdads Sing to be ridiculously overhyped. I also didn't care for City of Bones, and I couldn't finish the Maze Runner, the writing just didn't work for me. I didn't feel particularly for the Alchemist one way or the other and I'm yet to read Shadow and Bone
The inheritance games. How did anyone even like it? I don’t get the hype it was so predictable and poorly written
The Sun is Also a Star 100%.Barnes and Noble has those like deals where with a Starbucks purchase, you can get the book for $5. I was so sad about it too because I read Everything, Everything awhile back and loved it
Emma Jo wrote: "thats sad :( I have a copy ive been looking forward to reading"i loved the mythology behind it but i just wanted more out of the story :((
yeah, its always a bummer when that happens. Like I just read House of Hollow and I feel like they relied too much on the creepy wierd atmosphere (which I liked btw) to carry the story. I wanted a bit more out of the characters and plot
That's too bad you thought the darkest minds was disappointing. Was it by chance because you only read the first book? Because I honestly felt the same way about that cliffhanger lol
Yes I just thought the set up to the game was to long and what made it worse was that I did not care for Katniss and then I tried to read Catching Fire and four even more boring and DNFed 50 pages form the end.
That makes sense.
Back when I first read it, years ago, 5th grade I think, it was one of the first more mature books that I'd read, because of like death and stuff in it and I guess that's what kept me interested to finish it, I mostly just wanted to learn what it was about. But I don't know, I don't remember it being terrible.

I just i felt very cheated with the way people talked about it they made it seem like most of it was the game so when it was over 200 pages of her getting ready for it I was disappointed and bored but like I can see why people like it is just not the books for me.
Yeah, I honestly forgot about that part. Usually I don't like when books spend a lot of time in one place either, it makes them feel kind of slow. But I suppose for the Hunger Games I just wanted to finish it so I'd be able to say that I've read it.
Same I just wanted to read the game and I liked that but it was the same thing over and over again it was just very underwhelming.
Mockingjay I can agree was kind of boring because there was no game at all, it was just Katniss being the rebel person or whatever of district 13 and not doing really anything except cry over Peeta lol
Emma (Taylor’s Version) wrote: "You can fight me on this but I STRONGLY dislike Harry Potter as a whole."books or movies? i find HP to be very boring
Gosh I hated The Love Hypothesis. Why did nobody tell me it was Reylo fanfic? i wouldn't have stepped a mile near it had I known.
This is probably a very unpopular opinion, but I feel like Shadow and Bone was a lil overhyped. Not saying it was bad, I enjoyed the first book especially, but I just think it’s overhyped especially because of booktok. But books I just found disappointing would be the Gilded Ones and Divergent.
Normal People by Sally Rooneythe first pages were already not for me, I could not even get to the half of the book and I think it will probably never happen
Just finished the inheritance games and it was easily the most disappointing read of the year for me.
