“The only participant to protest loudly was Slammy Stillman, the overgrown town bully, who never had played fair.”
(Reminder: my book is “Rascal” by Sterling North.)
If this newly introduced character counts as 2 points, for first & last name, that would give me a total of 3 points, right?
Andrea wrote: "Melanie, what if a “best friend” or “daughter” is mentioned by name on the back cover blurb? They still are a secondary character, as they aren’t the lead. Or am I wrong on that?"
Sorry for the late reply, I've been off of Goodreads for a bit and just saw this.
Ideally they wouldn't be mentioned in the blurb, but I'm not checking people's books for that. Just trusting that the character is not a lead.

Round 3 | February 17-March 2
Letter: A
Category: Title
The title category must have a word beginning with the chosen letter ANYWHERE in the title. The words "A", "AN", "AND", or "THE" do NOT count towards points.
If more than one of the words in the title begin with the chosen letter, it will be worth more points (1 point for each valid word beginning with the letter).
We will be going off of the title listed on Goodreads and can include the subtitle since that is seen as the full title. If the book's series is included in parenthesis, that won't count since it isn't the title.
For example:
The Truth War: Fighting for Certainty in an Age of Deception - 1 point for the word Age
Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul - 1 point for Anxious
At Love's Command - 1 point for At
***We are going off of Goodreads' Title for this challenge. Please link to the book on Goodreads to verify the title. :)
*❀Books must be 150+ pages and started/finished/posted during the round (February 17-March 2)

Kind of an easier round this time, but I can't think of a book off the top of my head that I will be reading. I will do some searching later. :) Happy reading, everyone!

(Please check my original post for the page # & sentence..)
Now, that I’ve finished my chosen book, I’ve found 2 MORE secondary characters have been listed who each have 1 part of their names starting with S. So would that be 5 points total for my book?
1. Page 108: Garth Shadwick “We stopped at Shadwick’s Harness and Leather Emporium, which smelled delightfully of tanned leather, saddle soap, and harness oil. … Garth Shadwick, like his father before him, was a craftsman in leather whose skill was known as far away as the county seat and state capital.”
2. Page 134: Miss Stafford “At least two of my new teachers were greatly gifted. Miss Stafford made English a delight.”
OK, thanks so much!
I truly finished my book a couple days ago, but before I officially post that I finished my book, I’ve been waiting for this answer so that I’ll know whether I can
Monica, I'm sorry my notifications have been so wonky and I didn't see that comment. Is Slammy Stillman a female? It sounds like a male name, but not sure. Regardless, we only get points for one secondary female character in a book no matter how many secondary female characters we find.
Tiffany wrote: "If there’s more than one A in the title does it count as more points?"
Short answer: yes, if there are more than one valid word starting with A than you get more points (one for each valid "A" word)
Longer answer:
The words "A", "AN", "AND", or "THE" do NOT count towards points.

Thanx for asking about “Slammy Stillman.” Yes, he’s a male character, & I’d momentarily forgotten that the category is just FEMALE characters beginning with the letter S. 🤦♀️ So, those 2 points would not count after all. 🤣

Your S book is still in the round thread and it's been counted: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Great job on finding a book for this next round. :)

Finding a lot of Amish multi point " A " titles... ;)

I had not read this specific installment yet in this series. I'm loving it so far. 🥰
I'm reading Accidental Family. Hoping to come across a higher point book on my TBR pile that I want to read, but I'm also not wanting to force myself to read a book I don't want to read right now....that might put me back in my reading slump. :/

So glad to hear that! Pretty sure I loved that book when i read it. :)

Sorry i didn't read more this past round. I barely had time to finish my one book. :(
I think I'm going to read
for 3 points for round 4.
I think I'm going to read

Please make sure to post your book info on the round thread. I don't see it posted anywhere. :) I hope you loved your read(s). :)

Final round is posted. :)
The easiest way (in my opinion) to find a book for this category is to look at the tagged shelves of any book you want to read and see if you can find something.
For example, I want to read Riverbend Gap. I click on "genres" on the right side of the page and search the shelves. On the first page there is this shelf: "inspirational-romance", which would be one point...but there is also "2022-love-is-in-the-air-challenge", which would be two points for IS and IN. So I would choose that shelf and link to it: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve...
Round 6 | March 31-April 13
FINAL ROUND! :D
Letter: I
Category: Goodreads Shelf
Find a shelf that has word(s) beginning with the chosen letter somewhere in the title of the shelf. It can be anyone's shelf (EXCEPT exclusively your own or your teammates); just be sure to leave a link and, if there's more than one page to the shelf, the page number.
You get multiple points for how many "I" words there are in your chosen/linked shelf. Remember, it cannot be a shelf exclusively your own or your teammates.
