The main characters wife cheats on him, and he wants to kill the guy she cheated with. He hit a dog and when he went to bury it, he saw his wife in his house. He decides to kill 4 or 5 people before him to make it look like a serial killing. He buys green ribbon and strangles his victims, then marks his victims with it, and so he’s called the green ribbon killer. He stores his murder supplies in a fishing house his parents own. His parents are worried about the serial killer (I think this book is in the northern USA). He eventually kills the guy successfully and gets away with it all.
The end involves him divorcing his wife and getting a new girlfriend, they move into a new house and on the front door they find a green ribbon.
