Also have Just in Time - there are some other challenges where I won't have task assigments until this weekend, so I may change my mind if this one fits better for those.

How it fits - Book # 5 in The Grace Series
Alternative (Y/N) - N

Bonus (Y/N) - None
Review - Praying for Grace is book 5 in the Dystopian Grace Series. The synopsis of the series is zombie based. It started out with Zoe and her friend with benefits, Boggs, fleeing their hometown when the dead rise. However no one really escapes the virus. Everyone has it. when you die, you turn. However Zoe seems to have developed some sort of link with the undead. She can tell when they are near. It's a bit creepy. Somewhere along the way they join with another couple, Gus and Emilie and fight for survival.
In the rest of the books Zoe winds getting together with Gus even though she is pregnant with Bogg's baby. Add in tension among the group, some horrible words being said, and some dead killing off other members in the group. In book 4 Zoe gives birth to the baby, but the baby dies and turns. Gus takes it and shoots it and then turns the gun on himself. In book 5 we start off with Zoe and the rest of the group trying to get to an island where they think they will be safer. Zoe is devasted as she mourns the loss of her baby and Gus, however she is taking care of another infant that belonged to someone who died. To be honest, I don't remember who it was. So many characters have come and gone, most of them dying from zombie attacks. MOst of the group is out scavenging one night, when Zoe feels a stranger come onto the island. She goes out to investigate and lo and behold it's Gus. Gue never really killed himself, somehow he missed and was laying in the road when a group of people picked him up. These people are special in that they too feel telepathic links with the dead. Zoe and the group join these people until they find out that some of them plan on killing part of Zoe's group because they are not special. They flee, but not all of Zoe's group makes it out alive, and head towards the Cascade mountain range. Oh and Zoe is pregnant again.
Phew...It's hard to fit everything into a review that's 5 books in and try and get everyone to understand what's going on before you review it. This series has/had a lot of characters and trying to keep them all straight can be a bit of a chore. I don't know why I bother since the author likes to kill the majority of them off anyways whether it be 10 pages from where they meet or 3 books later. Don't get too attached because they usually don't make it. Babies are not even safe. It's also hard to keep all the names straight. In every action or scene the list of names and what they were doing kinda annoyed me. It was hard to keep track of. I gave this a 4 because this book felt rushed from beginning to end. It just didn't have the edge like the other books did. nor the action that made it so exciting in the other books.
I did enjoy the ending because zoe had given birth to her baby girl and it lived. It ended with the little having an amazing gift that seemed to kill off the zombies by her willing it. It was freaky and can't wait to see how this ends since the next book is the last.

This was good mix of contemporary and historical fiction. Sylvia travels to gather her mother's quilts, which had been sold many years ago. On the way, she (and we) discovered a lot more about her mother's life.
I appreciated the talk of the flu pandemic and WWI. Both so sad, and echoed in current events.
There was a lot of family drama - some of it was interesting and some of it was not. But the best part is it has been on my TBR for about 7 years so yay for getting it read!

This was an excellent follow-up to Raybearer. I loved almost everything about it. I enjoyed learning more about different parts of the other lands of Aritsar. I wish there were more about some of them because I want more about those textiles for sure!
There were a few muddied scenes, and the underworld was less well-developed than it was in the first book for me.
I hope that a particular character who died can find a way to come back because I loved their energy and all that they brought to the storyline.
I hope that Tarisai can find inner strength and break away from someone who is obviously not the best for her.
4-4.5 Stars for me.
I am interested to see what will happen next.
I loved the author's note at the end; it brought more depth to the overall story and journey. I can't wait to read more from Jordan Ifueko.

How it fits: #8 Body Movers
Date Read: 03.16 ★★★
Review:
It's been a long while since I've read this series but I was able to pick it up pretty easily. One thing I felt different about this book is that the main character, Carlotta, felt more competent and mature than I remembered. In past books, I felt like she let a lot of things happen to her rather than her taking control of her life but she seemed more in charge of herself this time. Also, in the past it seemed she had and did a lot of crazy almost TSTL plans in her amateur sleuthing but again, she didn't come across quite that way. This book definitely tied up the big overarching story arc for the series, left open the love triangle aspect of it a bit, so it will be interesting to see where the author has taken the series with the last 3-4 books

To be honest, I had forgotten all about this series until I hunted for a #5 in a series and saw that I had read the first 4 in this series. It was so engaging and it hooked me right away. The MC, Everly, is a strong female and I love that about her. Kannon “Ball” Black is a Mountain Mercenary and he’s the person who just might be able to find and bring back Everly’s missing sister. I love this series and the characters in each book so far. This can be read as a standalone or within the series, but the series is good enough that I recommend starting with book 1 and just enjoying Stoker’s writing.

I've only read a Christmas book in this series before (too bad or maybe I'd try to go for the entire series bonus point thing). But anyway, it was a good little mystery. Hamish is a very laid-back constable in a small Scottish village. When a new couple moves to town, the wife irritates Hamish because she "inspires" many women of the village to make changes, help their husbands eat healthily, quit smoking, etc. Is she really perfect or is she hiding something?
It was a pretty short mystery and was an easy read. I actually listened to it, which was kind of fun because of the characters' lovely Scottish accents.

How it fits: #4 Rokesby

Review:
I feel like it's the end of an era :-( All the Bridgerton and Rokesby books are done. I'm still reading the Smith-Smythe's so there still peeks here and there. I'm sad to be done but also happy. This last book was very sweet and I enjoyed the way Nicholas and Georgie complemented each other. They had fun banter and when Georgie would take charge, it could have gone either way with Nicholas either being grateful or resentful. I liked the direction it took. Cat-Head was also a fun diversion if a sort of weird name for a cat.

Murderbot is back and as good as the original story! Martha Wells brought back every aspect I love about Murderbot, with better pacing and more shenanigans.
This was a joy to read and I was so happy to have the wit and sarcasm I love returned n full force. Now if we can get some more ART bantering, it is everything I want from a Murderbot Diary entry.
Lots of great quotes, one of my favorites was:
"I guess the feed isn't adequate for all forms of communication, particularly those that involve a lot of glaring."

Book 4 has our MC in North Carolina investigating a plane that exploded in the air. Tempe is a forensic anthropologist and she was called onto the scene because she is part of the DMORT Team (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team). While there she finds a pack of coyotes gnawing and carrying around a foot. After she is able to get the foot away and tests done she discovers that the foot did not come from any of the occupants on board the flight that crashed.
IF you want a story that will anger you, this right here will have you gritting your teeth and yelling at the book. Every turn that Tempe makes in trying to find where this foot came from is blocked by powerful people including the Governor of NC. Not only are they blocking her, they are trying to ruin her professionally. Even though parts made me mad for the MC, I still loved the book. I really love the science part. I know a lot of readers get annoyed by the explanations that are given but not me. I'm here for it.
Not only did it make me mad, but I felt sad for her as well. It's really crappy that people you have known for a very long time all of a sudden turn their back on you. It's a pretty crappy feeling.
