1. If you do kindle select it can ONLY be offered on kindle.
2. Nothing wrong with a give away like that, it might affect some readers, but others will gain awareness because of it, that is a tough one.

Hi Shelby. KDP Select is where you give Amazon exclusivity for 90 days at a time. Quote: "During the period of exclusivity, you cannot distribute your book digitally anywhere else, including on your website, blogs, etc. However, you can continue to distribute your book in physical format, or in any format other than digital."
So you couldn't use Smashwords or your own channels at the same time. I'm guessing you couldn't upload extracts on Goodreads either. Amazon push/promote their Select ebooks more I think. Not tried Select so don't know how any time lag affects things if you have to unpublish elsewhere first.
As for free days...nothing unfair about them. Standard marketing. Good luck.

Select means exclusivity with Amazon for ebook distribution. You may distribute your physical book through any channels, but you can't have your ebook available anywhere else. If you are currently on other channels, you'll want to make sure your book is pulled completely before signing up for Select. If they find your book listed elsewhere, they have the right to refuse to carry your books.
Paddy wrote: "I'm guessing you couldn't upload extracts on Goodreads either."You are allowed to post excerpts of up to a certain percentage, I want to say twenty, for advertising purposes. I don't remember the exact percentage but it is something like that. I also believe free days are only for select books? I know the countdown deals are. If you can do free days for nonselect make sure you aren't personally responsible for the transfer fees which I believe is covered if you have Kindle Select.
I am looking at pushing the next two through multiple channels as they are books of shorts that are published on sites already. Want to see if having other venues does enough for sales to keep me away from exclusivity going forward.
Thank you everyone. I currently do not have the book, on ebook format, on any other site than Kindle. I may opt for a 50 percent savings, rather than free for a day- doing so in this fashion I would still be able to donate a part of my royalties to our organization (which is what I am currently doing on KDP). I thank you for taking the time out of your schedules to aide me!

1. I currently have it enrolled in Amazon, Barnes and Noble, various other online retailers and Kindle. I am debating on putting it on Kindle Select, but I really don't know the difference.
2. My son's birthday is the 19th and I am contiplating doing a free day to help with awareness of his/our battle with Epilepsy. I don't want to be unfair, though, to all those who have already purchased it- or deter future sales after that date. Help, please :)
Thank you- Shelby
