Barb | 1628 comments Yay for days with absolutely *nothing on the calendar -- and bingo games that provide the impetus to finish a book quickly! I finished my book for 0 (published in 2000) and liked it enough to continue the series, even though Betsy should have known better than to go out driving around in a snowstorm that scared even the locals!

A Stitch in Time (Needlecraft #3), by Monica Ferris, finished 3/2 ★★★.5

message 274: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1628 comments Finished my longitude 1 book. It was ok, but the ending felt rushed, like the author was in a hurry to wrap things up. I found it ironic that in a book that's only available as an ebook, the MC thinks it's "sad to think of the lovely bookstores across the country that would shut their doors" because "most people prefer [reading on] their screens these days." Really? LOL

Guilt & Galaxy Cake (Comfort Cakes #2), by Nancy McGovern, finished 3/6/22 ★★★.5 / 211 pages

Jan | 20828 comments Treasure #5

Glass enclosed ruins of medieval cathedral at the Anno Museum in Hamar, Norway

This treasure is mesmerizing by the contrast between old and new! It’s quite an unusual site to see the ruins of a medieval cathedral protected by a dramatic steel and glass structure. This incredible shelter encloses the arches of Hamar Cathedral which was originally constructed in the 12th century. Built with locally quarried limestone, it was destroyed in the Northern Seven Years' War during the 16th century. It is now the site of the Anno Museum in Hamar, Norway.

The glass enclosure was designed by Lund & Slaatto Architects and construction was completed in 1998. During a visit you will experience the fantastic acoustics it provides as the guides show off their singing skills for you. It's interesting that the site is also a popular location for small weddings and concerts and creates an incredible backdrop for both.

The Anno Museum also includes an impressive folk museum which is located in a conversion of a 17th century barn, It has a huge collection of artifacts that provide insight into the area’s history from the Viking era, through the Middle Ages and up
until today.

Enjoy the fine acoustics with these two videos:
