Interactive Geocaching Treasure Hunt

I was actually getting a little worried about you Pat. So sorry to hear that you were so ill. I hope you are feeling better!!!

Yes. It was touch and go for a few days, but antibiotics are amazing things, and once they were able to get ahead of things, I got better quickly. I'm supposed to let the doctor know if I experience any neurological issues, and I'm not sure whether or not this brain fog is relevant ... it seems to be improving every day, so I'm going to wait a little longer before I follow up on it.
Other than that, I think I'm doing ok at this point. I definitely feel better, for sure.

El Vochol
Museo de Arte Popular, Mexico City, Mexico
I have always wanted to own a Volkswagen Beetle!! It is a big piece of culture from my "hippy flower girl" time in high school and college. When I saw this treasure, I said "this is it - the beetle of my dreams!!" I knew I had to include it in one of our hunts.
This cute and colorful vehicle connects Mexico's past and future, representing the convergence of indigenous artisan heritage with modern styling sensibilities. Utilizing a vibrant and traditional art form practiced for centuries by Mexico's Huichol people, the entire bug was carefully encrusted with over 2 millions beads. The VW Beetle or Vocho (as called in Mexico) was chosen because it is an important part of the country's culture, serving as taxis during the 20th century. The car's name is actually a combination of Vocho and Huichol, the common name of the Wirrárika indigenous group. The project was spearheaded by the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City, and with the help of several agencies, two Huichol artisan families were contacted to participate in the work, hoping to immortalize this signature folk art technique.
The design, which represents Huichol deities and culture, was created by Francisco Bautista, a respected elder in the Huichol community. Eight artisans worked for 4,760 hours, applying 2,277,000 beads to the car. Originally the craft was done with seeds, but today they use plastic and glass beads which are hand-laid in a heat-resistant wax. It was finished at the end of 2010, just in time for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the start of the Mexican War of Independence, and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. Both anniversaries are noted in the Wixarika language on the car's front fender and dashboard. Since its completion, the car has traveled all over the world, but its permanent home is in the lobby of the Museo de Arte Popular.
To see a closer look at the incredible bead work on this treasure, check out the You Tube video made by the Denver Airport when El Vochol stopped there on its world tour.

Sorry - I haven't been hiding. I've been seriously ill with a severe strep infection that was trying to eat through my sinuses into my brain. Honest. I'm still really mentally foggy, but finally able to at least concentrate enough to read a chapter at a time.
