Joe and Charles meet when they both are with French resistance leader Cybele Desjardins, Charles recuperating and Joe as an undercover spy. Joe falls in love with Cybele but she’s drawn to Charles who later falls in love with her, despite him being married to Jenny. What did you make of this love triangle? Who were you rooting for? Why did Joe eventually accompany Charles back to Massachusetts? What made them best friends?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments Knowing going in that all these relationships were doomed was tough. I had hoped that it would end with Cybele and Joe together, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and Cybele and Charles fell in love. It was a terrible that Cybele died. Charles and Joe respected each other and had a true friendship and Cybele was the cement of the friendship. She would always be with them, even if they never acknowledged her spirit was there.

Perfectly stated, Anita💜💜💜

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments I was hoping that Cybele fell in love with Joe too. She loved and admired everything he did for the resistance, but he didn't touch her heart the way Joe wanted.

In a way, I felt like Charles was safe for Cybele. He was married. He was going to go home, and Cybele could love him and he wouldn't compete with her husband. In the end though even Charles' love couldn't fill the hole in her heart.

This is so true. Only they knew her, but they couldn't talk about her because of their personal pain.

It felt like each was “the one” for the other (Charles & Cybele). It didn’t feel like a choice.
