by Lisa Karon Richardson A decent historical cozy

5. Jade City (The Green Bone Saga, #1) by Fonda Lee Jade City by Fonda Lee A well written fantasy but too Mafioso for me.

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 15 Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia loved this one

16 Wonder Woman The True Amazon by Jill Thompson Wonder Woman: The True Amazon by Jill Thompson I didn't care much for the retconned origin story in this

17 From Here to Eternity Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty While it could be a bit graphic I loved this (and it should be graphic. It's reality)

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 19 A Summoning of Souls (Spectral City, #3) by Leanna Renee Hieber A Summoning of Souls by Leanna Renee Hieber It was a satisfying ending to the trilogy

20 Werewolf by Night New Wolf Rising by Taboo Werewolf by Night: New Wolf Rising by Taboo This wasn't bad but it wasn't very memorable either.

21 Ballad & Dagger (Outlaw Saints, #1) by Daniel José Older Ballad & Dagger by Daniel José Older I had an ARC for this Rick Riordan Present's imprint and this one is YA not middle grade. It's a little dark but oh so good!

message 15: by Cornerofmadness (new)

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 22 Dragon Pearl (Thousand Worlds, #1) by Yoon Ha Lee The Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee

The first Rick Riordan Presents I've been disappointed in. I thought this had world building issues but what do I know. It won a major SF award

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 23 Wake the Bones by Elizabeth Kilcoyne Wake the Bones by Elizabeth Kilcoyne This is an odd but very good southern gothic horror set close to where i live on the OH/KY border. You can about feel the summer humidity in this one.

24 Where Dreams Descend (Kingdom of Cards, #1) by Janella Angeles Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles This fantasy was enjoyable in spite of some real world building issues

25 The Mystery of Albert E. Finch (Victorian Book Club Mystery, #3) by Callie Hutton The Mystery of Albert E. Finch by Callie Hutton I had such high hopes for this historical mystery set in the really cool town of Bath England. It could have been set in nowheresville for how badly the setting was used. The mystery wasn't that hot either.

26 Faith Greater Heights (Faith Herbert Origin Story, #2) by Julie Murphy Faith: Greater Heights by Julie Murphy I had high hopes for this but it really fell flat. The whole duology was rather disappointing.

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 27 Together We Burn by Isabel Ibañez Together We Burn by Isabel Ibañez Another of the arcs i have. It was an interesting fantasy set in sort-of Spain, substituting dragons for bullfighting

28 Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey I liked it but it was not what I was expecting so I didn't like it nearly as much as I expected.

message 18: by Cornerofmadness (new)

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 29 XO (Kathryn Dance, #3) by Jeffery Deaver XO by Jeffery Deaver A decent but forgettable mystery

30 Darkness Under the Sun (What the Night Knows, #0.5) by Dean Koontz Darkness Under the Sun by Dean Koontz I liked this novella prequel

31 Woof Woof by Spencer Quinn A decent middle grade mystery but a dog as the narrator isn't my thing

32 A Good Girl's Guide to Murder A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson I really enjoyed this young adult mystery

33 In an Absent Dream In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire This was not my favorite of the Wayward Children novellas but it was still a good read

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 35 The Cabinets of Barnaby Mayne by Elsa Hart The Cabinets of Barnaby Mayne by Elsa Hart I really enjoyed this historical mystery (set in 1703 so a much earlier date than my usual read). I hope there is more to come

36 Mister Impossible (Dreamer Trilogy, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater Mister Impossible by Maggie Stiefvater. In the past I've loved this universe. Several reviewers said this felt like filler and I have to agree.

37 Eye Spy (Valdemar Family Spies, #2) by Mercedes Lackey Eye Spy by Mercedes Lackey My first foray into Valdemar in years. It was not a good homecoming. This was dull as dishwater

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments Oops it's been a while

38 Another Kind by Trevor Bream Another Kind by Trevor Bream this is a fun graphic novel

39 A Wedding to Die For (A Yellow Rose Mystery, #2) by Leann Sweeney A Wedding to Die For by Leann Sweeney I'm having little luck with my mysteries this year. This was bad.

40 Diamonds & Dirt (A Fox Hill Southern Mystery #1) by Stephanie LaVigne Diamonds & Dirt by Stephanie LaVigne needed more mystery or more romance or something. It was rather flat

41 Harley Quinn, Vol. 3 Welcome to Metropolis by Karl Kesel Harley Quinn, Vol. 3: Welcome to Metropolis by Karl Kesel This did not turn me into a Harley Quinn fan sadly

42 You'll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus You'll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus a YA mystery that didn't grab me

43 Tiger Honor (Thousand Worlds, #2) by Yoon Ha Lee Tiger Honor by Yoon Ha Lee the second in the series and I didn't like it much better than the first. Have to accept this is one Rick Riordan presents that doesn't work for me

44 A Matter of Hive and Death by Nancy CoCo It wasn't a bad mystery but the motive and how/why it was done was simply a scientific impossibility that would have taken 30 seconds of Googling to find out. Sigh.

49 The Shotgun Arcana (Golgotha, #2) by R.S. Belcher The Shotgun Arcana by R.S. Belcher loved this weird western, warning it's a bit violent

50 Key Lime Killer by Sharon Dunn Key Lime Killer by Sharon Dunn an okay mystery

51 Sleeping Beauties, Vol. 1 by Rio Youers Sleeping Beauties, Vol. 1 by Rio Youers adapted from a novel by Stephen & Owen King, a graphic novel about a pandemic afflicting women? Wrong time to read this one.

55 Murder at the Opera (Capital Crimes, #22) by Margaret Truman Murder at the Opera by Margaret Truman a disappointing mystery that seems to think if you hear opera once you'll fall in love and never listen to anything else (because seriously like 4 characters did and the rest already loved it)

56 Riot Most Uncouth A Lord Byron Mystery by Daniel Friedman Riot Most Uncouth by Daniel Friedman if you want a drunk womanizing nasty Byron failing to solve a mystery then this is for you.

57 The Shadow Threat (House of El, #1) by Claudia Gray The Shadow Threat: The House of El #1 by Claudia Gray Sorry Krypton having a strict caste system and treating everyone poorly is just not for me

58 Murder On The Mountain (The Starr Mystery Series, #1) by L.R. Starr Murder on the Mountain by L.R. Starr not a half bad romance/mystery novella

59 Murder in Old Bombay (Captain Jim Agnihotri #1) by Nev March Murder in Old Bombay by Nev March I really enjoyed this historical set in the height of the colonial era in India.

66. Wretched Waterpark (Sinister Summer, #1) by Kiersten White Wretched Waterpark by Kiersten White I really enjoyed this middle grade mystery/horror had strong Lemony Snicket/Nancy Drew/Scooby Doo vibes. I'm looking forward to more.

Cornerofmadness | 829 comments 67. Vinland Saga Omnibus, Vol. 12 by Makoto Yukimura While I'm still enjoying this series, peaceful farmer Thorfinn is just not that captivating.

68 Silver Under Nightfall by Rin Chupeco Loved this vampire story. They handled the love interest just as I would have hoped.

69. When Blood Lies (Sebastian St. Cyr, #17) by C.S. Harris I still love Sebastian and Hero but I am getting tired of the family melodrama and hooking everything into the Napoleonic era politics
