Hank asks Roxie whether she loves Billy (present tense) and she said “yes.” Should he have probed further? Why didn’t he? Why did she answer the way she did?

Yes, he should have probed a lot more on this subject. I picked up on this right away. I think he was really sad that she still loved this nasty dude when he was a good guy and he loved her. I think she didn't feel worthy of a good guy like Hank.

Roxie wasn’t paying much attention to what she was saying, still traumatized. Hank should have probed more, even to ask how she could still love someone who could do this to her.

I think this was a dumb angle for the author to write. It created a reason for a wedge between Hank and Roxie that was needless and unnecessary drama.

This was just a stupid plot twist to make the book longer.
