Regan, you can do it! I know you’ll catch up!
Sounds like everyone else is killing their challenge. Awesome!

Paula — I Hope you enjoyed the first trip and have fun visiting the grands on the next one. I’m sure you’ll catch up eventually!
Doreen, don’t you hate it when life gets in the way of reading?

A bit slow in updating this month, as this is day four of a migraine. Saturday was the worst, and I actually felt pretty good when I got up this morning, only a slight headache, but then it returned late afternoon. Ugh! I rarely have one that lasts more than a day, but at least I can sort of function, just acute pain. Saturday was pain plus light and noise sensitivity. Rude neighbors and damp weather don’t help. 😐
Anyway, enough whinging.
As of yesterday I am 56/85 (+28) in my Goodreads goal, and 24/50 for the Popsugar challenge. Definitely going to be increasing my GR goal come June. I haven’t felt like reading much the last few days (couldn’t read at all after the migraine hit Saturday afternoon), which makes me glad I was four books ahead in my May TBR list before the weekend. Only six books left on the official May list, two of which I’ve already started.
I also read 29 short stories in April, for a grand total of 109 — well, actually 113, as I have read or listened to four so far this month. I decided to do a short story bingo-style readathon this month, hosted by a BookTube channel I occasionally watch (Chantal Reads All Day). I figure I’m going to be reading them anyway, might as well have fun in the process.

Do you have meds for the migraines? I have gotten them and finally found something that works. You can message me if you want.

Linda, Brenna and RaeRae — Excellent progress. Keep it up!
Klowey — No, no special meds. I don’t get them often, and usually no more than a day and not as bad as this time. I’ve tried Exedrine Migraine, but it never seems to work for me. I can usually get by with mass quantities of Ibuprofen and a good night’s sleep.

That’s good progress, Karen M, and still plenty of year left.

End of May progress —
As of the end of May my GR progress is 66/85 (+31), so I have increased it to 66/100 (+25), and might end up increasing it again come the fall.
Ultimate Popsugar Challenge: 28/50, with at least two prompts planned for this month.
Last month I did a Short Story Readathon Bingo and completed a blackout. I read a total of 59 stories in June for a grand total of 168 for my Classic group challenge.

Paula — Good luck with your bingo! I completed a blackout bingo for a short story challenge last month. It was fun, though a couple of the squares were challenging.

Thank you, Heather.

Time for a mid-year progress report. Can you believe it’s July already?? 😳
I had a good June, finishing all but one book on my TBR list (I had just finished one tough read, wasn’t in the mood or mindset for another). Still, I read 11 books and 20 short stories, for a grand total of 188 in my short story challenge. Goodreads progress is now 76/100 (+27). Four of the books read counted towards the PopSugar Challenge, so now 33/50 on that, with at least two books planned for PS in July.

Zermeena — The simple answer is write it down. Make lists, but be flexible and change them if necessary.
I look at any challenges or group reads I want to do for the upcoming month, then write out a list of titles for the month based on that, combining challenges and group reads where I can. My list is not set in stone — I allow myself to change it as necessary, as the month goes on. Sometimes it’s because I decide to read a different book for a challenge than the one originally chosen, sometimes one book doesn’t work for a challenge as hoped.
I keep a reading journal where I track challenges and group reads for each month, as well as what I’ve read for the month. I paper clip my TBR list to the opposite page, which helps keep me on track. When I finish one book, I choose another book from this list. I also use some of the “easier” books on my list as a reward for finishing a more challenging book. For example, I might save one of the cozies on my list for after I finish a classic group read. So far this year I have only DNF’d two books.
I’ve been pretty faithful this year to my monthly lists, though sometimes I do deviate from them. In June there was one book on my list I did not read. I had just spent a week reading Beloved by Toni Morrison which was good, but not an easy read emotionally. Having just read one “difficult” book, and still turning it over in my mind, I wasn’t in the mood for another such book. Instead I opted for a middle grade book in Mount TBR not on my list, as well as several short stories. Sometimes you have to go with your gut or your heart or emotions and change it up a little.
There are ten books on my July TBR list: four mysteries, one urban fantasy, four classics, and one general fiction. Two of those are “if I have time and am in the mood” options. Meaning, I would like to read these, but I’m not going to force it. Especially as I have social engagements every week this month, including three in four days this week. Then again, that’s a lot of socializing for an introvert and quiet reading time helps me regroup, so who knows how the month will go?
And sometimes I not only finish my entire list, but exceed it. February, March and April were exceptional months for me this year.

I use many of the same criteria as Heather to decide what books I want to try to read each month. Once that decision is made, I put them on a GR shelf I created a couple of years ago that I named Read This Month. I know its contents are flexible, but it gives me a place to start when looking for what to read next. When I start reading a book, I simply uncheck that shelf name and go on my merry way :) I also have a Read This Year shelf that I use in much the same way.

I read 8 books in June which is the second best month for me so far in 2022 - July has been a slow start for me already, so I'm a bit nervous, but I'm sure I'll pick up the pace soon. Reading slumps are the worst!
Paula — That’s not too bad. Plenty of time to make up the difference. It may be hard to believe looking at how far ahead I am this year, but there have been years I’ve been 8-10 books behind my goal. Novellas and children’s/middle grade books really help make up the deficit! 😃
Linda — Nice cushion, keep it up! 👍
Barb — I like your idea of a GR shelf to corral the books you want to read this month...or year. That would be a great idea for PopSugar challenge books, and GR allows you to “fix” shelves at the top, which would make it easy to find.
Zermeena — I’m glad you found our suggestions useful!
Brenna — Congrats on being ahead in your challenge. I hope July reading improves for you!

Yes, exactly. You could even create a shelf for the books you'd like to read for one specific challenge, but I'm doing too many challenges to make that feasible :)

lol- I think I’d have about a million shelves by now if I did one for every challenge. I do like your idea for a monthly shelf, although I tend to just do that on paper. That way I get the satisfaction of crossing things off once I’ve read them.

Good progress — a two book deficit is easy to make up. I have no doubt you can do it! 🙂

Linda — There wouldn’t be enough shelves for all the challenges you do. 🤣
I keep one shelf on a living room bookcase for the physical books I own that work for challenges, but even having a written list, I tend to forget about books on the ereaders that fit. It might be helpful to also have a GR shelf for those books.
And speaking of ereaders, my Nook has started to show its age the past week or so through various glitches. It doesn’t always remember the page where I left off, or shut down right. In order not to lose my place I have to close out of the book before I turn it off, and have to be careful how I turn it off. Fingers crossed that it will make it through the end of the year. I can’t afford to replace it right now, and there are books on it needed for challenges through the end of the year. I know there’s an app I can use to read on another device, but I have a hard time reading on the tiny phone screen. 😐

Welcome to the Dog Days of August. I hope those under heat domes are being careful and reading in cool air conditioning as much as possible, and anyone in a fire or flood zone herds all warnings.
I had another good month of reading, fifteen books and only one clunker. I am now 91/100 (+33) for the Goodreads challenge, so have increased my goal again to 120 (+22). I am also now 39/50 for PopSugar — only eleven to go, ten once my current read is done, and I do have books for all remaining prompts. And in my short story challenge, I read 22 in July which brings my grand total to 210/300. Looking totally doable!
How are doing? Do you find you read more when the weather is hot, or have you hit the summer doldrums? My average has stayed fairly consistent this year, though every once in a while I hit a day where I don’t feel like doing anything.
Eight books planned for August, three of which are on the wonky Nook, so crossing my fingers there. It has occurred to me that I should be able to download their app on my tablet, which would be a lot easier than reading from my phone. Here’s hoping it doesn’t come to that!

Brenna — Ugh, don’t you hate that? Here’s hoping you get your groove back in August. Have you tried switching up genres or rereading an old favorite?

Paula — I hope you’re feeling better! Three behind isn’t too bad, considering.
Teresa — Looking good!

Thank you Heather. No it's not too bad as I was 7 behind last month.

One of my go-to rereads I couldn't even get into it! I decided to grab a few YA fantasies at the library - the fast pacing & heavier dialogue is helping so far
End of August check-in...
I read 15 books in August, which puts me at 106/120 (+27). I only read six short stories, my lowest month all year, for a grand total of 216. Three books read in August were for the PopSugar Challenge, so I am now 44/50 there — only six more to go! 😃
