Aditya Prasad (adityaarpitha) | 4 comments Hi y'all,

I’m a PhD candidate at IISc Bangalore. I’m from Kerala, Palakkad and am currently working from home. I keep wishing I could read more but it is hard, when I do get time I read hard sci-fi, non fiction, fantasy, progression fantasy, Chinese and Korean novels, manhwa, manga, etc.

Thanks to Adithi for adding me to the group, I saw 10k books in her shelf and I did a proper doubletake. Great work gathering this group. I look forward to having great discussions with you and we can even plan physical meetups in the city.

Aditya :)

Which one did you like more, Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead? I am yet to read Ayn Rand's books.

Debjit (debjitm) | 2 comments Which one did you like more, Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead? I am yet to read Ayn Rand's books.

For me its Fountainhead, it might be because it was the first time I was reading Ayn Rand. For Atlas Shrugged, I already had some expectations and it delivered well. Personally, I found Fountainhead to be more relatable and grounded to reality.

message 106: by Rohit (last edited Feb 11, 2022 05:09AM) (new)

Rohit (rohitraut) | 8 comments Hello everyone!

I am Rohit Raut from Mumbai, Maharashtra and I work as a Marketer and Designer. First of all, I would like to thank Dr. Aditi for inviting me to this group.

My Tryst with books started when I was in 6th std. We were all forced to go to our library and pick up a book and read it in a week. All of us took Goosebumps novels and that's when I fell in love with books. I read a lot of them in a year and I started my book reading journey with Horror fiction.

Fast forward to 2011, I bought a new iPad and installed a sherlock holmes app and I read all 9 Sherlock Holmes novels in a year. It was an amazing experience. Next year I joined Goodreads and started my Goodreads journey too. Can't believe that it's been a decade over here! I read a dozen books that year and all were pure fiction!

A few years later I started to develop an interest in current affairs, politics, and history. Hence in the last 5 years, I have almost read all non-fiction books, mostly history and a few on politics. I hope to read more books this year especially of self help and ones related to study and business apart from my hobby reading of politics and history. See you around...

message 107: by Biprorshee (new)

Biprorshee Das (bipro) | 1 comments Hello. I am Biprorshee from Bombay. Not a local, yes, but delighted to be a part of this group. Thank you Adithi.

I am a big fan of the horror genre - books and cinema. Obviously, worship Stephen King and Shirley Jackson, hence. Would love the occasional recommendation.

I also enjoy reading the occasional biographies. Agassi's 'Open', Ozzy Osbourne's 'I am Ozzy', and 'Slash' remain three of the best I've read.

I wouldn't claim to devour books, and some of the people on my GR list truly intimidate me. Haha. Then again, I make it a point to spend an hour or two with my Kindle each day.

Cheers.

message 108: by Anuradha (new)

Anuradha HR (anuhr) | 1 comments A theatre practitioner and an OD consultant from Bangalore. I read all genre, avoiding fantasy as much as possible, but with a strong inclination towards non fiction.

message 109: by Manasi (new)

Manasi (manuusays) | 1 comments Hey everyone, I'm Manasi from Mumbai.
I am a big fan of Romance and Historical Fiction, but usually don't mind recommendations from other genres too.

Earlier I just used to fangirl over books I read alone, but the lockdown made me crave that community feeling of obsessing and socializing over books, so here I am !
Looking forward to being a part of this group :)

message 110: by Jaideep (new)

Jaideep Bachher | 1 comments Hi Everyone. My name is Jaideep and I work for a startup here in Bangalore. Favourite authors are Salman Rushdie, Orhan Pamuk, and Marquez. Top five books of all time are:

1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
3. A Gentleman in Moscow
4. Man's Search for Meaning
5. Midnight's Children

Also a big fan of recent sci-fi, (Ken Liu, Ted Chang etc.)

I look forward to discussing books here with you folks! Cheers!

Hello, All,
I'm David Hight, a self-published author from South Texas, USA. I write fictional novels which tell a good story, because otherwise nobody would read them, but also woven through their pages are subtle explorations of human nature. I'm going to begin a quest to discover the same type of fiction from different parts of the world, as I feel that fiction is often used as a vehicle to say things that may not otherwise be said, granting one an insight that would not otherwise be available. Thank you to those who have provided this space, and if anyone would care to see my work, it may be accessed here: https://www.facebook.com/David-Hights... Thanks again!

Riya | 1 comments Hi peeps,
I'm located in Kerala. I read almost all genres - literary, fantasy, thriller, romance, humor, non-fiction. Not a huge fan of horror for horror's sake and sci-fi.
I'm also a writer of flash fiction and children's books (picture books to MG) so I read and enjoy a lot of that too.

message 115: by Shashank (new)

Shashank (readwithshashank) Shashank here. I am based in New Delhi and work as an infrastructure finance consultant. I am here based on an invite though my connection with Bangalore is just as a visitor (and having friends). I have been reading for a long though had dropped the number of books a lot in the last few years, partly due to workload issues and also my laziness.

I have been back with books with more focus in the last 6-8 months and am reading regularly again. GR is a good place to be in, as it is inspiring to see how much everyone reads. I also like to look up different views on a book; at times after I have read a book to find different perspectives around it. I share my views on my book in GR and would be happy to hear from others on the same. Thanks all for having me here.

Damini, a young widow, is one of the main characters in Quartet by Rabindranath Tagore. The book is also known as Chaturanga. It's a nice novella. Full of erudite and witty confabulations between the characters Damini, Swami Lilananda and the friends Sachish and Sribilash.

message 119: by Abhijith (new)

Abhijith | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am Abhijith and I live in Mumbai. I spent my childhood all over India due to my dad's job and my job also took me all over the country and few parts of the world. I am a mechanical engineer and an MBA in International Business. I'm also pursuing a part time PhD in Strategic Management. I currently work in the field of shipping and logistics for a Chemical company. I used to be an avid reader in my school and college days. I wanted to regain that habit and try to read 2-3 books at a time. Usually I prefer one fiction, one business related book and one new/popular book. I usually don't complete the targets I set for myself in GR, but still want to try this.

I noticed your profile and I must say that I also haven't come across any 1 or 2 star worth books as I research the book first before selecting it. In my rating system also only 3, 4 and 5 stars exist. These days I am giving boring or DNF'd books 3 stars, 4 stars for good books with some flaws and 5 stars for fantastic books.

message 144: by Ankita (new)

Ankita (ani-thebookworm) | 5 comments Hello bookworms!

Unlike most of members here, I'm neither from Bangalore (never been there!) nor I'm a software engineer (far from tech;-) I'm gujju girl from Rajkot!

I love reading and I don't have any favorite genre or a favorite book because; to me choosing a single favorite book is like a mother choosing her favorite child!

I don't have many people around me who read, so reading groups and book clubs are great opportunities to know what other people read and what they think about books we read.
All recommendations and discussions are welcomed.
Feel free to comment on my book reviews and let me know how those books made you feel.
Thanks Dr. Aditi for inviting me to the group!
