Martin is going to Bible Camp for the summer. He's going to learn archery and swimming, and he's going to make new friends. He's pretty excited, but that's probably because nobody told him that this is a horror novel.

Ta || bookishbluehead (bookishbluehead) | 2153 comments Starting it now. I'm excited, I'm hoping for a good and gory horror book.

j2yde gonna start it in a bit! also hoping for the same thing lol

Yeah, had a lot of reading time today :) Don't worry, I'm looking forward to your thoughts.

starting chapter 4 now! definitely agree that the mother is a bit irresponsible, though i don't want to really bad-talk her since we don't know her backstory lol. then again, imagine throwing an adult-af party while ur child is trying to SLEEP. it's an apartment, not a mansion. but okay lol.

not gonna lie, i really enjoy the narration so far! the book has been pretty smooth. completely forgot about the bible camp being a part of it, though, so that part was a surprise.

j2yde end of chapter five has...
okay MIXED FEELINGS.

for one, i sort of dislike the mother very much. this book feels a bit ableist to me (personally). yk, the whole "i'm glad you turned out *alriGht*" and "ik im supposed to be nice to them bc of THAT but like-" just...no, thank you?? it's a major put-off for me.

but the end of chapter five...oh my lord, i was not expecting that. father tony scares me so much. i feel so bad for mitchell. i'm literally so- stunned/speechless/at a loss for words

also i feel like that pov change just came out of NOWHERE. first we had martin, then more martin, and more martin, then a letter from dearest mother - then bAM third person pov following tony/mitchell

i don't dislike it necessarily but like definitely caught me off guard
