Marc Towersap (marct22) | 340 comments well, I finished Andy Weir's Artemis, which I liked. it did not read like Mark Watney on the moon (unlike Project Hail Mary, which kinda read like Mark Watney on a spaceship). There was one flaw in the book, a character denying they said x when they just said it two pages ago. I was like, what?? went back, and yep, you just said that to the person...

Anyhoo, while waiting for the last two Vorkosigan books to show up, I decided to read David Brin's sundiver. I read Startide Rising a long time ago in high school or college, and I read it's sequel Uplift War, but missed on sundiver. I figure, I'll read this, then re-read startide, and hopefully somewhere I'll get to read Cryonburn and then Gentleman Jole...

Phrynne How about a YA fantasy from 1973 (before there was such a thing as YA!)

Christopher | 981 comments Finished 3 books this week in a mad dash to complete my reading challenge:
The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham
After Atlas by Emma Newman
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear

Kraken Wakes had some similarity to Wyndham's book I'd read off the group shelf, The Day of the Triffids with another existential threat to humanity. It felt timely in that it shows how society might react to a global crisis (not always in the best ways!) & also had some cli-fi elements which felt ahead of their time for a novel from the 1950's,

After Atlas felt pretty different from Planetfall so it didn't feel like a typical book 2 of a series in that sense. The connection between the two that resonated the most for me were the skill Newman has of portraying the inner thoughts/neuroses of the narrators. Also some interesting thoughts on where technology/society might be heading.

Atomic Habits is non-fiction self-help type stuff, but has a lot of insight into how our brains work & how both best to life hack ourselves towards a better version of ourselves & better awareness of how the world is trying to hack into these predilections as well.

Now to decide what to read in 2023! And what goal to set.

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3168 comments I finished Gobbelino London & a Scourge of Pleasantries last night, and it was as much fun as I had hoped it would be. I grabbed the sequel for my kindle. Also last night I began Glory Boy, a military scifi.

Sam | 37 comments I think Robert Silverberg is a genius, and Times Three was a real thrill to read. Time travel is a real adventure.

It has been a lovely series thus far, and people tell me Assassins is one of the best of them, so I'm looking forward to it.
